Baldwin Estate 5755 Bit Key

The 5755 is a replacement bit key made of solid brass, part of Baldwin's Estate Series. A bit key is the old-style barrel key used on mortise locks with a bit key function rather than a cylinder keyway, so it turns the lock directly rather than through a pin tumbler cylinder. It's sold as a parts and accessories item for residential Estate hardware.

No. It's a bit key, not a cut cylinder key, so it won't enter a standard pin tumbler cylinder on a keyed entry knob, lever, or deadbolt. It's for bit key mortise applications only. If you're replacing a key for a cylinder lock, you need a key blank cut to your keyway, not this part.

One finish only: 003, Polished Brass PVD. PVD is a plated coating over the brass, so it holds its color better than a lacquered polished brass against handling and skin oils, which matters on a key that lives in a pocket. If the rest of your Estate trim is in a different finish, the key won't match it.

The 5755 is the Estate Series brass bit key sold as a spare or replacement part, so ordering multiples is the normal way to add keys for the same door. Before you order, compare the bit pattern on the key you already have against the 5755 image, since bit keys are not interchangeable across different bit cuts.

Baldwin lists the Estate 5755 as residential. Bit key hardware offers no pin tumbler security and no keying system behind it, so it's a fit for interior doors in homes and historic restorations, not for a commercial opening where you need keyed control across a facility.
