Baldwin R050003PV – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Baldwin R050 Hollywood Hills privacy rose include the knob, latch and turn button?
No. The R050 Hollywood Hills privacy rose ships with either one or two roses, the matching backplate, and the retainer(s) that hold the rose to the door. Knobs or levers, the latch, and adaptors are all separate orders, so plan on at least three line items to build a working privacy set.
2) Should I order the R050 rose as a pair or a half pair?
Order the Pair if you need trim on both faces of the door, which is the normal privacy application (rose outside, rose inside). The Half Pair is a single rose with its backplate and retainer, and it is what you want when you are replacing one damaged or mismatched side, or trimming a door that only gets hardware on one face. Both choices are offered in every finish the R050 comes in.
3) Is the Baldwin R050 rose a lock, or just the trim plate?
It is trim only. The R050 Hollywood Hills is the rose (the round escutcheon plate) plus its backplate and retainer, used to build a tubular privacy set. The locking action comes from the separate privacy latch and the knob or lever you pair with it.
4) How far does the Baldwin R050 rose stand off the door face?
Projection is 0.25 inch, so the rose sits nearly flush. That matters on doors with applied moulding or a narrow flat area around the bore, and it keeps the profile low where a door swings tight to a wall or casing.
5) Can I match the R050 rose to the rest of the brass and black hardware in the house?
There are 14 finishes on the R050, each available as a pair or half pair: Polished Brass (003), Non-Lacquered Brass (031), Vintage Brass (033), Satin Brass (044), Satin Brass and Black (050), Polished Nickel (055), Satin Nickel (056), Satin Brass and Brown (060), Graphite Nickel (076), Oil Rubbed Bronze (102), Venetian Bronze (112/11P), Satin Black (190), Polished Chrome (260), and Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze (402). Quote the number, not the name, when matching existing doors.
6) Is the Baldwin Estate R050 rose suitable for a commercial building or office?
It is classed as residential hardware in the Baldwin Estate Series, so it is intended for homes and light residential use rather than a commercial opening with heavy traffic or code-driven hardware requirements. Property managers doing apartment interiors use it; for a corridor or an office door, specify commercial-grade trim instead.
7) Can I buy the R050 Hollywood Hills as a complete set instead of piecing it together?
Yes. The Hollywood Hills style is carried in Baldwin's Quick Ship program as a complete Passage, Privacy, Full Dummy or Half Dummy set. If you are doing a whole house or a unit turn, ordering the complete set avoids matching the rose, knob, latch and adaptors separately.
8) What is the difference between a privacy rose and a passage rose on the R050?
The privacy version is prepped to work with a turn-and-release tubular privacy latch, so the door locks from inside, typically a bath or bedroom. A passage rose has no locking provision and just dresses a latch that always retracts. Hollywood Hills is offered in both, plus full and half dummy for closet or inactive doors, so keep the function straight when you order by room.
9) What are the R050 Hollywood Hills roses made of?
Solid brass. In the Lifetime Satin Nickel version that brass is nickel-plated, giving a matte PVD silver tone over the brass body, so you get brass weight with a nickel appearance.
