The 4860 is a low voltage wired button. Its lighted button needs low voltage power to work, and Baldwin recommends transformers up to 24 volts. If there is no existing bell wiring at the opening, an electrician has to pull low voltage wire and set a transformer before this button will light.

The living and painted finishes, Venetian Bronze, Antique Nickel and Satin Black, will change with exposure rather than staying uniform.
6) Can I use the Baldwin Reserve 4860 doorbell button on an apartment building or office entry?
Baldwin lists the Reserve 4860 as a residential product. For a single-family home, a townhome, or the front door of a small multi-family building it is the right kind of part. For an office lobby or a building where the button gets hundreds of presses a day, or where it ties into an access control or intercom system, this is not the part to spec.
7) Is the lighted button on the Baldwin 4860 always on?
The illumination is there so the button can be found in low light or at night, and it draws off the same low voltage supply that runs the chime. That is why the transformer matters: no power on the wire means a button that still rings nothing and lights nothing.
