Baldwin Reserve 8BR0406003 Round Corner Strike for Deadbolt

The 8BR0406003 round corner strike measures 1-5/8 x 2-1/4 inches. That is the standard face size for a residential deadbolt strike, so it covers a jamb mortise cut for a common strike prep. Round corners rather than square, so if the existing jamb mortise was routed with a router template it will drop in; a square-cut chiseled mortise will leave small gaps at the corners unless you square the radius or chisel the corners round.

Baldwin classifies this Reserve strike as residential hardware. For apartment entry doors, single family, and light multi-family unit doors it is the right part. For a commercial entrance, a stairwell, or anything in a fire rated frame, specify a commercial strike instead, since a residential-classified brass strike is not the part a spec for those openings calls for.

It is a full lip strike. The lip runs the full height of the plate rather than being cut back, which is what you want on a deadbolt where the bolt is thrown straight into the pocket and there is no latch bevel riding across the lip. If your opening was originally fitted with a T-strike or a partial lip, the mortise footprint is different and this plate will not cover it cleanly.

Solid brass. That matters on a deadbolt strike more than on a passage latch strike, because the bolt is what a forced-entry attempt loads against. Brass also means the finish is applied to the same base metal as the rest of the Reserve trim, so the color match to the deadbolt escutcheon holds.

Look at the existing mortise in the jamb. A pocket cut by a router or a factory-prepped door has radiused corners, and a round corner strike like the 8BR0406003 sits flush in it. A pocket chiseled by hand usually has square corners, and there a square corner strike covers the cut without leaving daylight at the ends. You can put a round corner plate into a square mortise and fill the corners, but going the other way means chiseling the jamb.

The 8BR0406003 is sold as a single strike in one finish, 003 Venetian Bronze. If you are standardizing a building or a run of unit doors, you order one per deadbolt opening rather than a boxed set.
