Baldwin 8BR0705003 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Baldwin Reserve 8BR0705 thick door kit actually for?
The 8BR0705 is a thick door kit for a Baldwin Reserve double cylinder deadbolt. It is a parts and accessories item, not a complete lock, so you order it alongside or after the deadbolt itself when the door is thicker than what the standard deadbolt hardware covers. Components are brass and steel.
2) Will the 8BR0705 kit work with a single cylinder Baldwin deadbolt?
No. The 8BR0705 kit is built for the double cylinder version of the Baldwin Reserve deadbolt, meaning key on both sides. A single cylinder deadbolt with a thumbturn inside uses different internal parts, so you need the thick door kit matched to that function instead.
3) Do I need a thick door kit, or will my standard Baldwin deadbolt hardware reach?
Standard residential deadbolt hardware is sized for a typical 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch door. If your door is thicker, common on solid entry doors with added cladding or panel buildup, the factory screws and tailpiece will not reach and you need a thick door kit like the Reserve 8BR0705 to make up the difference.
4) Does the 8BR0705 include the deadbolt and cylinders?
No. It is an accessory kit only, supplying the extended parts needed to adapt a Reserve double cylinder deadbolt to a thicker door. The deadbolt, cylinders and keys are ordered separately.
5) Is this Baldwin thick door kit suitable for a commercial opening?
Baldwin lists the Reserve 8BR0705 kit as residential. It is intended for homes and residential-grade Reserve deadbolts. For a commercial door under a hardware schedule, you would be specifying a Grade 1 or Grade 2 commercial deadbolt line rather than Reserve.
6) Will this kit fit a Baldwin Estate or Prestige deadbolt?
The 8BR0705 is a Reserve Series part. Baldwin's Estate and Prestige lines use their own hardware and thick door kits, so match the kit to the Reserve deadbolt it is going on rather than mixing collections.
