Baldwin SC.RAD.492 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt fit my existing door prep, or do I need to redrill?
It drops into a standard bored prep: 2-1/8 inch cross bore, 1 inch edge bore, and a latch that adjusts between 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inch backset, so it covers both common residential backsets without redrilling. Trim projects 1-7/16 inches off the door face.
2) Is this a single cylinder deadbolt with a thumbturn inside, or keyed both sides?
Single cylinder: key outside, turn piece inside. Baldwin also builds this Rustic Arch style in double cylinder (key both sides) and patio (thumbturn only) functions if egress rules or glazed doors push you that way.
3) Will this deadbolt key alike with my other Baldwin locks?
The cylinder is a C-keyway, so it can be keyed alike with other C-keyway Baldwin hardware. At order time you choose Keyed Different or Keyed Alike, and there is a key code field if you need it cut to an existing code. Two keys ship with the lock.
4) Will the 1 inch bolt reach my existing strike, and what strike comes in the box?
The bolt is brass with a 1 inch throw, matching standard residential strike depth. A dual strike kit ships with it, both square corner and round corner plates, and the front plate is 6-way adjustable: round corner, square corner, and drive-in collar. So whichever prep your jamb and door edge already have, the parts are in the carton.
5) Is this Baldwin Rustic Arch deadbolt rated for commercial use on an apartment entry or office door?
It is a residential deadbolt. For commercial openings or anywhere a Grade 1 spec is called for, look at the Accentra D111 or the Deltana CL200LM single cylinder Grade 1 deadbolts, or the Grade 2 Hager 3215 with the Schlage C keyway for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors.
6) The opening needs a key on both sides instead of a thumbturn. What deadbolt should I order?
The Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt is a single cylinder unit with an interior turn piece, so it will not accept a key inside. For double cylinder operation, the Delaney LU Series is a Grade 2 double cylinder deadbolt, the Dexter DB1000 Series double cylinder is Grade 1 for 1-3/8 to 1-7/8 inch doors, and the Design Hardware D1 Series is a Grade 1 extra heavy duty double cylinder deadbolt for 1-3/4 inch doors.
7) Does the Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt carry a fire rating, and what should I use on a fire-rated door?
The Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt is a residential-classified deadbolt. Where a fire-rated assembly is specified, the Hager 3215 single cylinder deadbolt with a 1 inch throw is a Grade 2 commercial lock carrying a fire rating for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, the Hager 3115 is a fire-rated Grade 2 cylinder x thumbturn with a Schlage C keyway, and the Cal-Royal CRB800 is a heavy duty single cylinder deadbolt with a UL 3-hour fire rated latch.
8) My cylinders are keyed on a Schlage C keyway. Is the Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt compatible, or is there a closer match?
The Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt uses a C-keyway cylinder, so it keys into a Schlage C system. If the rest of the building is commercial hardware on that same keyway, the Hager 3115 Grade 2 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt and the Hager 3118 Grade 1 classroom deadbolt both use the Schlage C keyway, the 3118 with a 6-pin cylinder.
9) We key our building on small format interchangeable cores. Can I use the Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt?
The Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt ships as a keyed C-keyway deadbolt with two keys, not an IC prep. For interchangeable core keying, the Arrow E61 is a Grade 2 single cylinder deadlock with SFIC prep less core for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, the Deltana CL200LAIC is a Grade 2 single deadbolt with interchangeable core prep and a 2-3/4 inch backset, and the Delaney LM Series is a Grade 1 single cylinder less core deadbolt.
10) What finishes does the Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt come in, and can I get the two sides different?
Two finishes: 481 Dark Bronze and 492 White Bronze. There is a split finish field on the order form if you want the exterior and interior sides in different finishes, which matters when the outside has to match rustic bronze entry trim and the inside has to match interior hardware.
11) Do I need to buy a strike, screws, or anything else to install this deadbolt?
No. The set ships complete: cylinder, interior turn piece, adjustable latch with three front options, both strike plates, and two keys. The only add-on decision is the thick door kit if your door exceeds 2 inches.
12) I need the same keyed-outside, thumbturn-inside function but in a plainer, less decorative deadbolt. What should I look at?
The Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt has a rustic design with a turn piece inside and a keyed C-keyway cylinder outside. For the same cylinder x thumbturn function in plain trim, the Bravura 310B Elite is a Grade 2 traditional round deadbolt, the Bravura 310SC Elite is a Grade 2 contemporary square deadbolt, and the Callan Model 200S-G2 is a Grade 2 single cylinder round trim deadbolt. All three keep the key-outside, turn-inside operation with standard round or square escutcheon trim.
13) Is a Corbin Russwin DL3211 deadlock a substitute for the Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt?
No. The Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt is a cylinder x thumbturn set with a turn piece for interior release. The Corbin Russwin DL3211 is a Grade 1 cylindrical deadlock configured cylinder x blank for 1-3/4 inch doors, meaning there is a blank plate rather than a thumbturn on the inside. Its sibling DL2211 is likewise cylinder x blank. Choose those only where interior key-free retraction is not wanted.
14) I want another cast or decorative bronze deadbolt in the same spirit as the Baldwin Rustic Arch. What else is there?
The Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt is a rustic-design single cylinder deadbolt offered in 481 Dark Bronze and 492 White Bronze. For a comparable decorative bronze look, the Emtek #11 Tuscany is a lost wax cast bronze cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt. If the aesthetic is meant to read modern instead, the Emtek 8323 Modern Disc deadbolt is a brass double cylinder unit.
15) What is an economy single cylinder deadbolt if the Baldwin Reserve trim is more than the job needs?
The Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt is a decorative residential entry deadbolt with an adjustable 2-3/8 to 2-3/4 inch backset latch. For a plainer functional unit with adjustable backset, the Cal-Royal ED500 is a Grade 3 single cylinder deadbolt with adjustable backset for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Brinks Raleigh E2401 is a transitional round single cylinder deadbolt with a 4-way adjustable backset.
16) Is there a keypad or electronic version instead of the keyed Baldwin Rustic Arch deadbolt?
The Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt is a mechanical keyed deadbolt operated by key outside and turn piece inside. For code or credential access on the same bored deadbolt opening, the Delaney KP400 is a Grade 2 electronic deadbolt with a programmable remote, the Codelocks CL2210 is an electronic mortise deadbolt, and the Dormakaba Saffire LX-D is an RFID electronic deadbolt with BLE and electronic lock override.
17) We want the deadbolt combined with the knob or lever on one interconnected chassis. What replaces a standalone Baldwin Rustic Arch deadbolt?
The Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt is a standalone auxiliary deadbolt that installs into a separate 2-1/8 inch bore above the latchset. If you want one chassis instead, the Falcon H2101 is a Grade 2 entrance interconnected lock with a single cylinder deadbolt built in.
18) Will a BEST 8T tubular deadbolt tube or an Arrow 460 strike replace the Baldwin Rustic Arch deadbolt?
No. The Baldwin Reserve Rustic Arch deadbolt is a complete set including trim, latch with adjustable backset, and a dual strike kit. The BEST 8T is the tube component of a T Series tubular deadbolt, and the Arrow 460 is a mortise lock strike for latchbolt and deadbolt functions with a straight lip. Both are pieces of other assemblies, not complete deadbolt sets.
