It is carbide tipped, which is the tip style meant for masonry work: brick, block, mortar, and light concrete, as well as the wood framing and sheathing on either side of the penetration. That is why bell hangers are carried on exterior wall work, where one hole passes through drywall, stud or plate, sheathing, and then brick or block. Use it in rotary or hammer-capable rotary mode per your drill's instructions, not in an SDS rotary-hammer chuck, since this is a straight-shank bit.

Drill the hole completely through from the side you are working, leave the bit in place, then hook your pull string or fish wire through the hole near the tip on the far side and reverse the drill back out. The wire comes back with the bit, so the penetration is drilled and strung in one trip instead of two. On the 3/4 inch BHDM19 the hole is sized to take a standard pull string or a light fish wire; heavy pull rope should be tied to a leader string rather than forced through the eye.
