1) What do I need to specify when ordering a BEST 1AP cut key?
Four things settle a BEST 1AP cut key order: the keyway, the key type, the key stamp, and your keymark plus marking number. Keyways run WA, WB, WC, WD, WE, WG, WH, WK and WY. Key type is Control, Grandmaster, Master, Operating or Submaster, so you say up front whether this is a change key for one door or a master that has to walk a floor. Key stamp options are KS567KS800, KS594KS800 and KS609KS800. Keymark and marking number are both required entries, and those are what tie the key back to your existing system records so the key gets cut to your bitting instead of a random one.
2) Is a BEST control key the same as a master key?

3) How do I know which BEST keyway my building is on?

4) Does the BEST 1AP key come cut or as a blank I have to bit myself?
It comes cut. The 1AP is supplied as a finished cut key, combinated to the keymark and marking number you supply, so a locksmith does not need a machine or a code book to put it into service. That is the difference between this and a key blank such as the Ilco CH1C, which ships uncut in an Arrow 1C keyway and has to be bitted before it will turn anything.
5) Will a BEST 1AP key work in my existing BEST interchangeable cores?
It works in BEST cores that are on the same keyway and the same keying system. Two things have to line up: the keyway letter (WA through WY on the 1AP) and the bitting, which is set from the keymark and marking number you give when ordering. Supply the keymark your building already runs on and the key drops into the existing system, which is what lets you add a key to an established master plan without rekeying anything. Different keyway, or a keymark from another system, and it will not turn.
6) Can an Ilco CH1C key blank be used in place of a BEST 1AP cut key?
No. The Ilco CH1C is a nickel silver key blank cut for the Arrow 1C keyway, so it is an uncut blank on a different keyway family and will not enter or operate a BEST core. The BEST 1AP premium bow key is supplied already cut and is ordered against a BEST keyway - WA, WB, WC, WD, WE, WG, WH, WK, or WY - with the keymark and marking number that tie it to the existing combinating. If the doors run BEST cores, the key has to be a BEST keyway key; an Arrow 1C blank is a substitute only for locks already on the Arrow 1C keyway.
7) What is the difference between the BEST 1AP bow and the 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 9A keys?
Bow shape is the head of the key, the part you grip, and it changes handling and identification rather than what the key opens. The 1AP is the premium bow. BEST also builds the 1A standard bow, the 2A large round, the 3A large rectangular, the 4A access bow and the 9A blockout blade. If a facility is running a large ring or wants keys sorted by feel in a dark corridor, a large round or large rectangular bow is easier to pick out; the 1AP is the choice where a heavier, cleaner-looking head matters, such as keys carried by staff in a public building.
8) Can I get BEST keys stamped with our facility name to stop staff copying them?
Custom stamping is available on the 1AP cut key, and it is normally how an institution marks keys to its own organization so an unauthorized duplicate is obvious.
