1) Will a BEST 1CDF core drop into my existing BEST small format interchangeable core hardware?
The 1CDF is a BEST 7-pin interchangeable core built for 150 series cylinders, so it goes into BEST 150 series cylinders and locking hardware that already accept a BEST I/C. It is backwards compatible with all BEST Peaks systems and with other major brands of locking hardware that take the same core, which is how a facility can swap an entire keying system over without changing the lock bodies. Pull the old core with a control key, drop the 1CDF in.
2) What is the difference between the BEST 1CF and the 1CDF core?
Both are BEST Preferred patented 7-pin brass cores for 150 series cylinders. The 1CF is the standard I/C; the 1CDF adds drill resistant construction for openings where attack resistance matters. If you are keying a general office or classroom fleet, the 1CF covers it. For exterior doors, cash rooms, drug storage, or anywhere you have had a drill attack, specify the 1CDF. The BEST Preferred line also includes the 3CF for the 8E cylinder and the 6CF for the 4S cylinder.
3) What do I have to specify when ordering a BEST 1CDF core?
Three things. Keyway: 1P, 2P, 7P, 8P, 9P or 10P. Finish: 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 satin bronze oil-rubbed, or 626 satin chrome. And whether you want it combinated or uncombinated. If you order combinated, you also supply the keymark and the marking number so the core is cut into your existing system. Uncombinated ships blank for your own locksmith to pin.
4) I manage a building already on a BEST master key system. Can these cores be added to it?
Yes, as long as you match the keyway to what your system already uses and order the cores combinated to your keymark and marking number. No - they are different classes of part. The 1CDF is an interchangeable core that drops into a compatible BEST 150 series cylinder housing. The Corbin Russwin CR1000-112 is a complete 1-1/2 inch Grade 1 mortise cylinder with an A02 straight cam, and the CR1070-114-A01 is a 1-1/4 inch 6-pin mortise housing with an A01 cloverleaf cam. Those thread into a mortise lock body directly; they do not accept a BEST core.
6) What do I order if I need a rim cylinder for an exit device rather than a BEST core?
The 1CDF is a core only and needs a compatible BEST 150 series housing. For a self-contained rim cylinder, the Schlage 20-021 is a 6-pin rim cylinder with a vertical tailpiece cam and two keys, and the 20-022 is the same 6-pin rim cylinder with a horizontal tailpiece cam. No. The 1CDF is a BEST 150 series 7-pin core. For those openings the Medeco 1065140 is a 5-pin retrofit cylinder for the Arrow JL interconnected lock and Emtek handleset and deadbolt outside cylinder, and the Emtek CY4 is a cylinder sold each for Emtek hardware. Those are cylinder retrofits rather than interchangeable cores, so they are keyed as individual cylinders instead of pulling out on a control key.
