What ships is the mortise lock case only, the 45HCA privacy lockbody. Levers or knobs, roses or escutcheons, and the thumbturn/emergency release trim are ordered separately, as is the strike package. Plan the trim order alongside the case so the door prep, faceplate and trim all land together.
2) Will the BEST 45H mortise lock fit a 1-3/4 inch door, and what about thicker doors?
Standard configuration is built for 1-3/4 inch doors, which is the usual commercial thickness. For anything heavier, a thick door configuration covers doors up to 5 inches, but the thickness has to be specified when the order is placed - it is not a field adjustment.
3) Do I have to specify handing for the BEST 45H, or is it reversible in the field?
Handing is selected at order time - right hand, left hand, right hand reverse bevel or left hand reverse bevel. The latch itself is field reversible, rotating 180 degrees without opening the case, and the hub uses a four position toggle, so a handing change on site does not require a new lock body.
4) Will this BEST mortise lock latch into the strike I already have on the frame?
The latchbolt is solid stainless steel with a 3/4 inch throw and the deadbolt throws 1 inch, so the strike lip and box depth have to suit those. A 7/8 inch lip-to-center strike is available as an ordering option if your frame reveal needs the deeper lip; otherwise the standard strike package applies.
5) Is a privacy mortise lock the right choice for a patient room or dorm bathroom, or should I use an office function?
Privacy function is the one for restrooms, bed/bath and patient toilet rooms: it locks from the inside by thumbturn with no key cylinder for normal operation, and it is non-keyed.
