1) Will these Brady PermaSleeve sleeves run in my BMP21-PLUS printer?
Yes. The M21-125-C-342 cartridge is made for the BMP21, BMP21-PLUS and BMP21 LAB label printers, and it also runs in the IDPAL. The media ships as a cartridge with the ribbon built in (R4300 black ribbon), so there is no separate ribbon to buy and nothing to thread. Printing is thermal transfer, single sided.
2) Can these wire markers handle a hot motor enclosure or an outdoor unheated space?
Service range is -67 F to 275 F (-55 C to 135 C), so both cold outdoor runs and hot equipment cabinets are inside spec. The polyolefin is also rated chemical, corrosion, humidity, UV and weather resistant, and the print is smear resistant, which is why these get used in wash-down and machinery wiring where a wrap-around label would lift.
3) How much do you get in one Brady M21-125 PermaSleeve cartridge?
One roll per box, 7 ft (2.13 m) of continuous sleeve. The printable web is 0.235 in (5.97 mm) wide, and because it is continuous rather than die cut, you set the marker length in the printer, so the number of markers you get depends on how long you make each one.
4) Does the 0.125 inch PermaSleeve shrink 3:1, and what diameter does it finish at?
Shrink ratio is 3:1. Supplied diameter is 0.125 in (3.2 mm) and recovered diameter is also listed at 0.125 in (3.18 mm) for the printed sleeve size, with the sleeve pulling down onto conductors as small as 0.046 in. Apply heat evenly with a heat gun rather than an open flame; the polyolefin is heat shrinkable and flame retardant.
5) Should I use heat shrink sleeves or self-laminating wrap labels for panel wire ID?
Heat shrink sleeves like the B-342 PermaSleeve slide over the conductor and recover onto it, so there is no adhesive to creep, no edge to peel, and the marker stays legible through oil, cleaning agents and UV. The catch is that the sleeve has to go on before the wire is terminated, or the termination has to come off. If the wires are already landed on terminals, a self-laminating vinyl wrap label is the practical choice. For new panel builds and harness work, the sleeve is the permanent answer.
6) I need to reorder the same Brady sleeve my shop has been using. What is the part number?
Order M21-125-C-342. The M21 prefix is the BMP21 cartridge format, 125 is the 0.125 in sleeve diameter, and 342 is the B-342 heat shrink polyolefin material. The trade name on the box is BMP21 PermaSleeve. If a drawing or purchase spec calls out the material only as B-342, that is the same material code as the SAP B number on this cartridge.
