1) Will Brady M71C-1000-595-WT tape run in a BMP61 or BMP41 printer, or only the BMP71?
The M71C-1000-595-WT cartridge is built for the BMP71 label printer only. It is a thermal transfer media, so it also needs a ribbon loaded alongside it; Brady lists M71-R6000 as the recommended ribbon, with M71-R6000HF, R4400, R6000 Halogen Free and R6900 as the other suggested series. If your printer is not a BMP71, this cartridge is the wrong media.
2) Can I use this white vinyl label tape outdoors on equipment exposed to weather?
Yes, that is what B-595 vinyl is for. Brady rates it at 8 to 10 years average outdoor durability, with a service range of -40 F to 180 F (-40 C to 82 C). One caution on install: the minimum application temperature is 0 F (-18 C), so if you are labeling in a freezer or a hard winter yard below that, the permanent acrylic adhesive will not set properly. Warm the surface or apply indoors first.
3) Will this vinyl conform to a curved conduit or a rough powder coated enclosure?
At 0.004 in (0.102 mm) thick, the vinyl is thin and flexible enough to wrap conduit and small-diameter pipe, and the permanent acrylic adhesive is specified for smooth, rough, powder coated, irregular and low surface energy surfaces. That combination is why it gets used for arc flash and electrical panel marking as well as pipe legends.
4) Will these labels survive washdown and solvent cleaning in a plant?
B-595 vinyl is listed as abrasion, chemical and oil resistant with an aggressive permanent adhesive, which is why it is used for harsh environment identification. It holds up to detergents, grease and industrial cleaners up to its 180 F service ceiling. For high-heat steam lines above that, it is the wrong material.
5) Is the Brady B-595 white vinyl tape RoHS compliant and free of Prop 65 substances for a government or healthcare facility spec?
It passes EU RoHS 2011/65/EU including 2015/863, contains no California Prop 65 listed substance and no heavy metals. It is not DOT regulated and no SDS is required for it. For submittals, the material also supports ASTM D 2979 and ASTM D 523 compliance.
6) Is M71C-1000-595-WT the same tape as the B-595 material called out on our labeling spec?
Yes. M71C-1000-595-WT is the Brady BMP71 cartridge part number, and the material inside it is Brady B-595 outdoor vinyl (same as the SAP B number B-595). The 1000 in the part number is the 1 inch width and 595 is the material. If a spec says B-595 for a BMP71, this is the 1 in white gloss version.
7) Is gloss white the right choice for arc flash and safety labels, or should I use a colored stock?
Gloss white B-595 gives high print contrast for black-on-white legends and is the general-purpose choice for arc flash panels, hazmat, inspection tags, 5S visual workplace and asset ID. Where a color-coded scheme is required, such as ANSI pipe marking legends that call for specific background colors, you would specify the matching B-595 color instead of white; the printing and durability behave the same.
