Bobrick 544 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Bobrick B-544 surface mounted or does it need a recess in the wall?
Surface mount. The B-544 hangs on a wall bracket fixed to the finished wall face, so there is no rough-in or wall cavity work involved. That makes it a straightforward retrofit in an existing restroom where you cannot open up tile or a block wall.
2) Will a Bobrick B-544 toilet brush holder hold up in a public restroom?
It is built for it. The holder is heavy-duty type 304 stainless steel with a vandal-resistant wall mounting bracket, and the brush handle is stainless as well rather than plastic. Type 304 is the standard corrosion-resistant grade used in commercial washroom accessories, which is why it survives constant wet contact and cleaning chemicals better than a chrome-plated or plastic holder.
3) Can I replace just the brush head on a Bobrick B-544 instead of buying a whole new holder?
Yes. The nylon brush head is replaceable and threads onto the stainless steel handle, so when the bristles wear out you swap the head and keep the holder and bracket on the wall. For a property manager standardizing a building, that is the reason to spec a stainless unit over a throwaway plastic set.
4) What finishes does the Bobrick B-544 come in, and can I match the other stainless accessories in the restroom?
Two finishes: satin stainless and bright polished. Satin is the usual match for Bobrick's standard stainless washroom line (dispensers, grab bars, shelves), while bright polished reads closer to chrome-look trim. Pick the one that matches what is already on the wall, since both are the same unit otherwise.
5) Does the Bobrick B-544 come with a drip container, or does the brush sit on the floor?
A water reservoir is included, so the wet brush drains into the holder rather than onto the floor or a separate pan. The brush lifts straight out of the reservoir, which is what keeps the unit off the floor entirely and makes the compartment easier to mop.
6) What is included when I order a Bobrick B-544 toilet brush holder?
You get the stainless steel holder with its water reservoir, the vandal-resistant wall mounting bracket, and the stainless handled brush with a nylon head. What you supply is the anchors appropriate to your wall substrate, since fastening into ceramic tile over block is a different anchor than a stud or drywall.
7) Is the Bobrick B-544 the straight-style brush or a bowl-mop shape?
Straight style. The B-544 uses a straight stainless handle with a nylon brush head dropping into a cylindrical reservoir roughly 4-1/16 inches across, rather than a cone-shaped bowl mop. If your crews are used to a angled or bowl-mop head, this is a different tool in hand even though it serves the same toilet cleaning job.
