Metallics BHCK1213 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What thread size and pitch are the bolts in the Metallics BHCK1213 hex bolt kit?
The BHCK1213 kit is a 1/2-13 hex bolt kit, meaning 1/2 inch diameter with 13 threads per inch. That is the standard UNC coarse thread for a 1/2 inch fastener, so it mates with any 1/2-13 UNC nut, coupling nut, or tapped 1/2-13 hole.
2) Is the Metallics 1/2-13 hex bolt kit zinc plated or stainless?
Steel with a zinc plating, not stainless. Zinc plated carbon steel is fine for dry interior work such as strut, channel, and equipment mounting inside a building, but for exterior, wet, or corrosive locations you want hot dip galvanized or stainless hardware instead.
3) Can I use 1/2-13 hex bolts with 1/2-20 nuts I already have on the shelf?
No. 1/2-13 is coarse thread (UNC) and 1/2-20 is fine thread (UNF). Same 1/2 inch diameter, different pitch, so they will not thread together. Use 1/2-13 nuts with the BHCK1213 bolts.
4) What is the Metallics part number to order for the 1/2-13 hex bolt kit?
Order it as Metallics BHCK1213. That is the manufacturer part number for the 1/2-13 hex bolt kit in zinc plated steel, and it is the single model offered under that designation.
