Metallics JG9HC33 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do the Metallics JG9HC33 bolts come with nuts and washers?
No. The JG9HC33 jar contains 25 hex cap screws only. Nuts and washers are ordered separately, and for a Grade 9 joint you want hardened washers and a nut rated to match the bolt rather than a standard low carbon nut.
2) What does Grade 9 mean on a 3/4-10 hex cap screw, and when do I need it?
Grade 9 is a higher strength class than the Grade 5 or Grade 8 fasteners most jobs use, so the JG9HC33 is specified where a 3/4 inch bolted joint sees heavy structural or vibration loading and a lower grade would be at its limit. If your drawing calls out Grade 5 or Grade 8, a Grade 9 bolt exceeds that strength requirement, but match the grade on the print when the joint is engineered, since bolt stretch and torque values differ by grade.
3) Is the Metallics JG9HC33 a hex head bolt or a socket cap screw?
Hex head. The JG9HC33 is a hex cap screw, driven with a wrench or socket on the external hex, not an Allen key. For a 3/4-10 hex cap screw that is a 1-1/8 inch wrench size.
4) What is the Metallics part number for the 3/4-10 x 2 Grade 9 hex cap screw?
Order it as Metallics JG9HC33. That part number covers the 3/4-10 x 2 Grade 9 hex cap screw in the 25 piece jar, and it is the only configuration that number is sold in.
