Metallics JG5HSF516212 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I still need a washer with a serrated flange bolt like the JG5HSF516212?
No separate washer is needed. The serrated flange under the hex head spreads the load like an integrated washer and the serrations bite into the mating surface to resist loosening from vibration, which is why these get used on strut, enclosures and equipment mounting. Note the serrations will mar a finished or painted surface, so for cosmetic work use a plain hex bolt with a flat washer instead.
2) How many bolts come in a jar of Metallics JG5HSF516212?
100 pieces per jar. Metallics packages this 5/16-18 x 2-1/2 serrated flange bolt in jar packaging, which is the typical shop or van-stock format for electrical fastener counts rather than a bulk carton.
3) What nut do I order to go with the Metallics 5/16-18 x 2-1/2 hex bolt?
Any 5/16-18 coarse-thread nut. A serrated hex flange nut pairs naturally with this bolt and removes the need for a washer on the back side; a plain 5/16-18 hex nut works equally well if you add a flat washer. Match the finish of the nut to the bolt so you aren't mixing plated and plain hardware in a damp location.
4) Can I order a single Metallics JG5HSF516212 bolt instead of the full jar?
No. JG5HSF516212 is the jar part number, so it sells as the 100 piece jar, not loose by the piece. There is one orderable configuration under that model number.
