Go Grade 8 when the connection is loaded harder than a Grade 5 can carry. This bolt is Grade 8 medium carbon steel, heat treated, with 150,000 psi minimum tensile and 130,000 psi minimum yield, hardness Rockwell C33-39. A Grade 5 runs softer and lower in tensile, so for automotive, fleet, and heavily loaded equipment mounting the Grade 8 is the call. For general hanging and bracket work a Grade 5 is usually plenty.
2) Do these bolts qualify for a Buy American or ARRA funded project?
