18-8 austenitic stainless handles general atmospheric corrosion, which covers outdoor conduit runs, damp mechanical spaces, and chemical or food-processing equipment. Harsh chemical exposure is a different matter: the manufacturer notes some chemical environments call for special corrosion-resistant materials, where 316 stainless is the usual step up.
2) How strong are these stainless hex bolts compared with a plated steel bolt?
Tensile runs 100,000 to 150,000 psi minimum with a 65,000 psi minimum yield, and hardness is Rockwell B95 to C32. That puts them in the range of a medium-strength fastener, not a Grade 8 substitute. If your drawing calls for a specific SAE or ASTM grade bolt in a structural connection, don't swap stainless in for it.
3) Can I use these on a federally funded job with Buy American requirements?
