1) What size and thread is the Metallics JHTB43 hex tap bolt?
The JHTB43 is a 5/16-18 x 2-1/2 inch hex tap bolt: 5/16 inch diameter, 18 threads per inch, right-hand thread, with a 2-1/2 inch length. Thread conforms to IFI-199 (2014). It takes a standard 1/2 inch wrench, with a measured hex head width across flats of 0.484 to 0.500 inch.
2) Is this bolt zinc plated, and can I use it outdoors?
The JHTB43 is zinc plated steel. Zinc plating is a mild corrosion barrier meant for dry interior and sheltered use. For wet, washdown, coastal, or buried locations, step up to a stainless bolt instead. Metallics covers the same hex tap bolt pattern in 18-8 stainless under the JSHTB series.
3) What grade or strength is the Metallics JHTB43 bolt rated to?
Tensile strength is 60,000 psi minimum and hardness runs Rockwell B69 to B100. That is low-carbon commercial grade material, fine for hanging conduit, strut, boxes, and mechanical supports. If a drawing calls out a Grade 5 or Grade 8 bolt for a structural or high-torque joint, this is not the bolt to substitute.
4) Does the Metallics JHTB43 hex tap bolt meet Buy American or ARRA requirements?
