1) Can I use these galvanized lag bolts outdoors or in a damp mechanical room?
Yes. The JBLS12G is steel with a galvanized finish and Metallics calls it out for use in corrosive environments, which covers exterior strut, conduit standoffs, ledgers, and wet or washdown areas indoors. For stainless-level exposure, such as coastal or chemical service, a galvanized coating is the wrong spec.
2) Will a 5/16 inch lag bolt work in masonry or concrete block?
Not on its own. The JBLS12G is a wood lag with spaced threads and a gimlet point, so it needs either wood or a lead or plastic lag shield set into the masonry. If you are fastening to concrete or block directly, use a concrete screw or wedge anchor instead of this bolt.
3) Do these lag bolts meet a dimensional standard I can put on a submittal?
Head and thread geometry conform to ASME B18.2.1-1996, the dimensional standard for square and hex bolts and screws, and the material is specified to AISI 1006 to 1022. Both items are also flagged ARRA compliant and Buy American compliant in the product record, which is what a government or institutional submittal usually asks for. Country of origin is China.
4) Do I need washers with these lag bolts, or are they included?
Washers are not included with the jar of 100. A lag bolt bearing directly on wood or on a thin clip will crush or pull through, so for most wood work you want a flat washer under the head. Order galvanized washers separately to match the finish, since mixing plain steel washers with a galvanized lag defeats the corrosion protection.
5) How are these lag bolts packaged, and what is the minimum I can buy?
