Metallics JMHTB1025 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What thread does the Metallics JMHTB1025 hex tap bolt take, and will it run into an M10 x 1.5 tapped hole?
It is an M10 bolt with a 1.5 mm thread pitch, right hand, so it threads into a standard M10 x 1.5 coarse tapped hole or nut. Shank length is 25 mm, which is your usable grip plus engagement depth, so for a 25 mm bolt plan on thin plate or a bracket going into a tapped boss rather than a thick stack.
2) Is the JMHTB1025 threaded all the way to the head or does it have a shoulder?
Threads run the full length of the shank, right up to directly beneath the head, which is what makes it a tap bolt rather than a partially threaded hex cap screw. That matters when you are pulling a bracket tight into a tapped hole with little depth, since you get thread engagement over the entire 25 mm. It also carries a washer face under the head for seating.
3) What does Class 8.8 mean on this metric bolt, and is it strong enough to mount a motor?
Grade 8.8 is medium carbon steel, heat treated, with a minimum tensile strength of 120,350 psi and minimum yield of 95,700 psi, hardness Rockwell C23-34. That is the common structural-duty metric class, and mounting a motor to machinery is one of the stated uses for the bolt. For anything spec'd at Class 10.9 or 12.9 you need a higher class bolt, not this one.
4) Is this M10 bolt a metric thread or an inch thread? The spec table confused me.
It is a metric bolt: M10 diameter, 25 mm long, 1.5 mm pitch, Class 8.8. It will not thread into any inch-series tapped hole, and an imperial 3/8-16 or 3/8-24 nut will not run on it. If your equipment is tapped in inch threads you need a UNC or UNF hex bolt instead.
5) Can I use these zinc plated M10 bolts outdoors or on rooftop HVAC equipment?
The bolt is steel with a zinc finish, which handles indoor and sheltered mechanical work well but is not a stainless or hot dip galvanized fastener. For exposed rooftop curbs, coastal sites, or anywhere washdown and standing water are routine, a zinc plated bolt will eventually show rust at the head and thread. Metallics lists it for electrical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning work, which is mostly interior and equipment mounting.
6) How many bolts come in the JMHTB1025 jar and is 50 the minimum order?
Each jar holds 50 bolts, and 50 pieces is the order minimum, so you buy by the jar rather than loose count. The jar itself runs about 1220 g gross. Other sizes and quantities in the MHTB and JMHTB tap bolt family are available by request if 50 of the M10 x 25 is not the right break for your job.
7) Do these M10 hex tap bolts come with nuts or washers?
The jar contains bolts only, 50 of them. There are no nuts, flat washers, or lock washers included, so order those separately in M10 if you are through-bolting rather than going into a tapped hole. The washer face formed under the hex head gives a clean bearing surface but it is not a substitute for a washer on soft or slotted material.
