Bravura Oxford with Square Trim Dummy Knobset, Grade 2

Dummy means there is no latch and no moving mechanism. The Bravura Oxford square trim knobset mounts to the door face as a pull only, so the knob does not turn to retract anything and the door will not stay shut on its own. It is used as the counterpart on an inactive leaf of a French or double door, on a closet or pantry door held by a ball catch or roller catch, or anywhere the look needs to match a working knob without a latch. If you need the door to latch, order a passage or privacy knob instead.

It is built to residential duty. Bravura states the Oxford exceeds ANSI Grade 2 on the internal mechanics, but the product is classified residential, so it suits apartments, condos and single family work rather than high traffic commercial openings. For a commercial spec dummy trim, the Schlage A170 single dummy is a Grade 2 heavy duty unit and the BEST 6K single dummy trim is Grade 2 medium duty.

The Bravura Oxford square trim knobset is dummy function, meaning it is a counterpart to functioning hardware or used where a latch is not needed. If you need a latch, the Omnia 434/PA is an egg-shaped knob latchset in passage function with a 3 inch projection, and the Dexter C2000 Series passage ball knob lock is a Grade 2 non-keyed passage lock for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch.

The Schlage A170 single dummy trim is the nearest cross-brand match: it is a Grade 2 cylindrical non-keyed knob lock in dummy function, the same grade and function as the Bravura Oxford dummy knobset. The Schlage A170 is A Series, rated heavy duty, and fits doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch, while the Bravura Oxford is a solid brass residential knobset. The BEST 6K Series single dummy trim is another Grade 2 dummy knob, listed as medium duty.

Bravura sells the Oxford square trim dummy as a knobset with square rose trim, one assembly per order. If you are dressing both faces of an inactive French door leaf you need two. For a factory-packaged pair, Emtek lists dummy knobsets sold two per set, such as the Arts and Crafts Hammered Egg dummy pair and the Classic Brass Crystal Georgetown dummy pair.

Four: US15 Satin Nickel, US26 Polished Chrome, US19 Black, and US10B Oil Rubbed Bronze. If you are matching other openings in a unit or a building, those are standard BHMA finish codes, so a US15 Oxford dummy will read the same as US15 hardware from another line on the adjacent door.

No handing to specify. The Oxford knobset is reversible, and since a dummy has no latch there is no bevel or latch face to orient. The same part works on a left or right hand swing.

No cross bore or edge bore is required for the knob to work, because there is no latch to run through the door edge and no spindle passing through. A dummy trim fastens to the door face. That makes it the usual choice when you are covering an existing bore on a door being converted to a non-latching leaf, or dressing a solid slab with no prep at all.

Pair the dummy with a latching knob in the same finish. Within Grade 2 residential knobsets, Callan offers the Edgewood and Roland entrance knobsets, the latter listed in US15 Satin Nickel, which matches the Oxford dummy's US15 option. Cal-Royal also lists a BA40 Barrington dummy knob for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch if you want dummy and functioning trim from one series.

Use a fire rated assembly instead. The Oxford dummy is a residential knobset and carries no fire rating in its specs. Falcon lists fire rated knob locks in both the W Series W101 Grade 2 and the X Series X101 Grade 1, the latter covering doors 1-3/8 to 2-1/4 inch.

Knobs that carry a similar profile but a different function will not drop in. The Cal-Royal BA40 is a dummy knob cylindrical lock and does match on function, but the Kwikset 200P Polo passage knob ships with a 6AL latch and round corner strike, and the Sargent 78-2875 is an outside knob only for the 7800 Series exit device. Neither of those does the job of the Bravura Oxford dummy knobset, which is a counterpart trim used where no latch is needed.

The Bravura Oxford square trim dummy knobset is solid brass. Among other dummy knobs, the Omnia 434/0 traditional egg-shaped single dummy interior lockset and the Omnia 442/00 single dummy latchset with a 2-5/8 inch rose are both solid brass construction, and the Omnia 458/0 single dummy latchset lists a 2-3/8 inch backset with solid brass construction.

The Bravura Oxford square trim knobset is dummy function only. To fill out the other openings on the same job, Dexter C2000 Series Grade 2 ball knob locks cover privacy, entry/office, and classroom functions for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, and Callan Edgewood is a Grade 2 entrance knobset. Knob styling will differ between brands, so match visually before committing to a fleet.

Solid brass, with square rose trim. Brass under a plated finish like US26 Polished Chrome or US10B Oil Rubbed Bronze holds up better to handling than a die cast knob, which matters on a dummy since it takes direct pull load every time the door is moved.

The Bravura Oxford square trim dummy knobset is Grade 2. If the opening does not require that, Pamex FT3 Saturn is a Grade 3 knob lockset for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, and the Pamex FTF Baron is offered in Grade 3 passage and privacy functions. Cal-Royal BER20 is a Grade 3 privacy knob lock with brass trim over the same door thickness range. These carry latching functions rather than dummy trim, so confirm the opening actually needs one.
