Klein Tools 60177 Breakaway Lanyard for Safety Glasses

The 60177 uses adjustable loop ends rather than clips, so it slips over and cinches onto a wide range of temple arms. That loop attachment is what lets one lanyard cover mixed eyewear across a crew instead of buying a style-specific cord. Safety glasses are not included.

Overall length is 27 inches (68.6 cm) with a 0.12 inch (0.3 cm) cord diameter, so it hangs the glasses at chest level when they come off and stays thin enough not to catch under a collar or hard hat suspension.

A breakaway type like the Klein 60177 is the one to use where a snag hazard exists, because it separates at roughly 3 pounds instead of pulling the wearer with the catch. A fixed, non-breakaway retainer is the choice only where there is no entanglement risk and you want the glasses to stay tethered no matter what. Klein is explicit that release performance varies and will not occur under all conditions, so verify it against your own hazard assessment.

The cord is water resistant black synthetic braided fiber, so rain and sweat are not a problem. The braid is what gives it strength and wear life compared with a plain cord, and the material is soft and low profile against the neck for all-day wear.

It weighs 0.32 oz (9 g), which is roughly the weight of a few sheets of paper. Combined with the 0.12 inch cord, there is effectively no added load on the eyewear, which matters when you are trying to get compliance on a site.

Klein Tools part number 60177. It is sold as the lanyard only, in black, with eyewear purchased separately, so order glasses on a separate line if you are stocking a PPE crib.
