Metallics ASB4 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size MC or AC cable does the Metallics ASB4 anti-short bushing fit?
The ASB4 is the 3/4 inch anti-short bushing, sized for 3/4 inch armored cable connections. Anti-short bushings (often called red heads) slip into the cut end of AC or MC cable so the cut armor cannot chafe through the conductor insulation where the cable enters the connector or box.
2) Do I still need anti-short bushings if my MC connector already has an insulated throat?
Depends on the cable. Steel-armored AC cable is the case where the bushing is standard practice, since the cut armor is what threatens the conductors. The ASB4 is the 3/4 inch nylon version for that use. Many inspectors look for one in every AC termination regardless of the connector, so electricians commonly keep a bag of 16 on the van rather than argue it on site.
3) How many anti-short bushings come in a bag of Metallics ASB4?
They ship as a bag of 16, and 16 count is the order minimum. That is enough for a run of MC drops without opening a second bag on a typical branch-circuit day.
4) Do Metallics ASB4 bushings meet Buy American requirements for a government job?
The ASB4 is flagged as both Buy American compliant and ARRA compliant, which is what a public-agency or federally funded project submittal usually asks for on small electrical fittings. Country of origin is listed as multiple, so if your contract requires a single named origin, that is the point to verify with your submittal package.
