Bussmann FNQ Series Time-Delay Midget Fuse, 500V Non-Indicating

The Bussmann FNQ Series Time-Delay Midget Fuse from Eaton Bussmann is engineered for motor control transformers and other circuits that experience momentary in-rush currents. This family is available in amp ratings from 1A to 30A (1A, 1.125A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5.6A, 6A, 8A, 9A, 12A, 25A, and 30A options), each built as a non-indicating, ferrule end x ferrule end midget fuse rated 10 kAIC at 500 Vac with a nickel-plated bronze endcap. The standard time-delay design helps prevent nuisance opening during normal motor and transformer starting conditions while still protecting the circuit at 500V.

Key Features

  • Amp Rating Range: Available across 1A, 1.125A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5.6A, 6A, 8A, 9A, 12A, 25A, and 30A options to match specific motor control and transformer circuit protection needs.
  • Time-Delay Characteristic: Midget fuse design allows for momentary in-rush currents on motor control transformers and starting circuits without nuisance opening.
  • Ferrule End x Ferrule End: Standard ferrule-to-ferrule termination for compatibility with midget fuse holders and fuse blocks.
  • Interrupting Rating: 10 kAIC at 500 Vac supports reliable protection against short-circuit conditions.
  • Nickel-Plated Bronze Endcap: Corrosion-resistant endcap construction supports consistent electrical contact over time.
  • Non-Indicating, Standard Configuration: Built to the Eaton Bussmann standard, non-indicating style.
  • Voltage Rating: Rated 500V for use on motor control and transformer circuits.

Bussmann FNQ-1-1/8 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Bussmann FNQ fuse hold up to control transformer inrush without nuisance blowing?
That is what the FNQ is built for. It is a time-delay midget fuse, so it rides through the momentary inrush a motor control transformer draws at energization instead of opening on it, while still clearing a real fault. If you are seeing a fast-acting midget fuse open every time the panel is energized, a time-delay FNQ of the same amp rating is the usual fix.
2) Can I use a 500V FNQ fuse on a 480V or 240V control circuit?
Yes. The FNQ is rated 500V, and a fuse may be applied at or below its voltage rating, so it covers 480V, 277V, 240V and 120V control circuits. What you cannot do is go the other way and use it above 500 volts.
3) What is the interrupting rating on the FNQ, and is it enough for my panel?
10 kAIC at 500 Vac. That covers control circuits fed through a transformer, where available fault current at the secondary is low. On a panel with higher available fault current at the fuse, you need a midget fuse with a higher interrupting rating instead. Check the available fault current at the point where the fuse block sits before you spec it.
4) Will the FNQ fit my existing midget fuse holders and blocks?
It is a ferrule end x ferrule end midget fuse, so it drops into standard midget fuse clips, blocks and holders that take a ferrule-style cartridge. No blade or bolt-down mounting is involved.
5) Is the FNQ the same thing as an FNQ-R fuse?
They are different fuses. The FNQ here is a 500V time-delay midget with a 10 kAIC interrupting rating. The FNQ-R is Bussmann's Class CC time-delay midget, rated 600V with a rejection feature so it only fits Class CC rejection holders. If your holder or your drawing calls for Class CC, the plain FNQ is not the correct substitute.
6) What amp ratings does the Bussmann FNQ midget fuse come in?
Seventeen ratings, from 1A up to 30A: 1, 1-1/8 (1.125), 2, 3, 4, 5, 5-6/10 (5.6), 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25 and 30 amps. Part numbers follow the rating, so FNQ-1, FNQ-10, FNQ-30, and the fractional ones read FNQ-1-1/8 and FNQ-5-6/10. For a control transformer, size to the transformer primary requirement on the nameplate, not to the wire.
7) Does the FNQ have a blown fuse indicator?
No. The FNQ is the standard non-indicating style, so there is no pop-out pin or lamp to tell you it has opened. If you want an at-a-glance check on a control panel, you will want an indicating midget fuse or a blown-fuse indicating holder; otherwise plan on metering across the fuse to confirm.
8) I need to protect a motor control panel. Should I use a time-delay midget fuse or a fast-acting one?
For motor control and control transformer circuits, go time-delay. Anything with a transformer or a contactor coil draws a large momentary inrush at pickup, and a fast-acting midget will open on that surge even though nothing is wrong. Fast-acting belongs on resistive and electronic loads with no inrush. The FNQ Series is the time-delay option, 1A through 30A at 500V.
