Metallics TC1 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Metallics TC1 tape an electrical tape or a sealant?
It is a sealant, not an insulating tape. TC1 is a butyl caulking tape meant to seal gaps and joints, so it goes around an enclosure lid, a conduit entry or a duct seam. For insulating or jacketing a conductor you still need a rated electrical tape; the TC1 does not replace it.
2) Will butyl caulking tape hold up outdoors on a roof or exterior enclosure?
The TC1 butyl tape is weather resistant and holds its sealing performance across varying environmental conditions, which is why it is listed for roofing and building envelope sealing as well as exterior electrical enclosures. Butyl stays pliable rather than curing hard, so it keeps a seal on joints that move or vibrate.
3) What part number do I order for Metallics grey butyl caulking tape?
Order it as Metallics TC1. That is the single model and manufacturer part number for the grey butyl caulking tape, so there are no length or color choices to specify.
4) Does the grey color matter for exposed electrical work?
Grey is a neutral tone that blends with most electrical enclosures and common building materials, so it is less conspicuous than a black or white sealant on exposed panel seams or duct joints. Functionally the color changes nothing about the seal.
