Blackburn CTP202 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What conductor sizes does the Blackburn CTP202 C-tap accept?
The CTP202 C-tap takes a main run conductor from No. 1 through 2/0 and a tap conductor from No. 6 through No. 2. If your main is smaller than No. 1 or larger than 2/0, this is the wrong C-tap in the range and you need the size above or below it.
2) Is the Blackburn CTP202 copper or aluminum, and can I use it on copper grounding conductors?
Copper. The CTP202 is a copper C-tap, so it is intended for copper conductors such as grounding electrode conductors and bonding jumpers. Don't use a copper-only connector on aluminum conductors; that calls for a dual-rated AL9CU connector instead.
3) Does the Blackburn CTP202 C-tap need a special crimp tool?
Yes. It's a compression connector, part of the E-Z-Ground compression grounding line, so it has to be crimped with a hydraulic or battery compression tool and the correct C-tap die for the connector size. There is no bolt or set screw on it, so it cannot be installed with a wrench or standard pliers.
4) What is a C-tap used for compared with a split bolt or a mechanical lug?
A C-tap is a crimped tap connection: the main conductor and the tap sit in the C-shaped copper body and the tool closes it into a permanent, irreversible joint. That makes it the choice for grounding grids, ground ring taps, and bonding jumpers where you want no threads to loosen and nothing to retorque later. A split bolt or mechanical connector is the pick when the joint has to come apart again for testing or future changes.
5) Can I use one CTP202 for both a 2/0 main tap and a 4/0 main tap on the same grounding run?
No. The CTP202 tops out at 2/0 on the main, so a 4/0 main run needs a larger C-tap from the same E-Z-Ground compression family. On a job with mixed conductor sizes, plan on more than one C-tap size and matching dies.
6) How is the Blackburn CTP202 sold, individually or in a box?
It's sold each, so you can order the exact count you need for the number of taps on the job rather than buying a full carton.
7) Is the Blackburn CTP202 made in the USA for jobs with domestic sourcing requirements?
Country of origin on the CTP202 is the United States, which is what government and federally funded projects with domestic preference language usually need documented on grounding hardware.
