1) Will the Cal-Royal BA20 privacy lock fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
Yes. The BA20 privacy knob lock covers doors from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches, so it handles both an older 1-3/8 inch interior door and a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door with the same part. Door prep is a 2-1/8 inch cross bore with a 1 inch edge bore for the latch, which is the common bored-lock prep.
2) My doors are prepped for a 2-3/8 inch backset. Can I still order the BA20?
Yes, backset is a choice on the order. The BA20 ships 2-3/4 inch as standard, and 2-3/8 inch is the other selectable option. The latch faceplate changes with it: 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inches on the 2-3/4 inch backset, 2-1/4 x 1 inch on the 2-3/8 inch. If your existing latch mortise is cut for the narrower face, order the 2-3/8 and the plate drops into the same pocket.
3) Does the Cal-Royal BA20 take a key, and how does someone get in during an emergency?
No key, and no cylinder. The BA20 is a non-keyed privacy function: the latch works by knob from either side, the outside knob locks with a push button on the inside, and the outside face has an emergency release for entry. Turning the inside knob or closing the door pops the button back out. That is the right function for a restroom, a bedroom, or a patient room, and the wrong one for any door you need to key.
4) Will the BA20 work with the strikes already in my frames?

7) Should I use a privacy knob or a passage set on a restroom door?
A restroom or a bedroom needs privacy, which is what the BA20 is: it locks from inside with a push button and releases from outside in an emergency. A passage set has no lock at all and belongs on a corridor or closet door where nobody needs to secure themselves inside. If the door instead needs to keep the public out and be opened by staff with a key, neither one fits, you want a keyed entry or classroom function lock, because the BA20 is non-keyed and takes no cylinder.
