Cal-Royal CR2710536-AL – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Cal-Royal CR27105 threshold work under a fire rated door assembly?
Yes. The CR27105 saddle threshold carries a 3-Hr Positive Pressure rating and meets UL 10B, UL 10C, and UBC 7-2 (1997), so it can go under fire rated openings in commercial buildings.
2) What lengths does the Cal-Royal CR27105 saddle threshold come in?
Four stock lengths: 36, 48, 72, and 96 inches. A 36 inch piece covers a standard single door opening, and the 72 or 96 inch lengths are what you order for pairs or to cut down on site.
3) Do I get screws with the Cal-Royal CR27105 threshold, and will they match the finish?
Fasteners ship finish matched. MIL finish thresholds come with zinc plated screws, brass thresholds with brass screws, color anodized thresholds with screws plated to match, and stainless steel thresholds with stainless screws. You still supply your own anchors if you are fastening into something other than the standard substrate.
4) Should I use a saddle threshold or an offset threshold at my exterior door?
A saddle like the CR27105 is a flat, symmetrical profile that sits under the door and levels a transition, including over carpet. An offset threshold is stepped so it picks up a change in floor height or works with a door sweep at an exterior opening, and if that is your condition the NGP 653 offset threshold, 1/2 inch by 5-1/2 inch aluminum alloy, is the shape to look at instead.
5) Which threshold should I specify for a fire-rated door assembly instead of shopping on width alone?
The Cal-Royal CR27105 carries a 3-Hr Positive Pressure rating and meets UL 10B, UL 10C, and UBC 7-2 (1997), which is the documentation a fire-rated opening submittal asks for on a 1/2" x 5" saddle. Among the aluminum saddle alternatives, the NGP 1013 is a 1/4" x 10" mill aluminum threshold carrying BHMA certification and the Pemko 272 Series is an ADA compliant 1/4" x 6" heavy-duty aluminum saddle - different credentials aimed at accessibility and performance grading. Match the credential to what the drawing calls out.
6) Can I match a Dark Bronze threshold across a building using the Cal-Royal CR27105?
Yes. The CR27105 is offered in Aluminum and Dark Bronze and in 36", 48", 72", and 96" lengths, so a single model can carry a bronze finish across openings of different widths within the CR 2000 Series. The comparable aluminum saddles - the NGP 1013 in mill aluminum and the Pemko 272 Series in heavy-duty aluminum - are specified as aluminum, so standardizing on a bronze appearance points to the CR27105.
7) What finishes is the CR27105 threshold available in?
Aluminum and Dark Bronze (ordered as DURO). Both are offered across all four lengths, so you can match the bronze frames on one elevation and mill aluminum elsewhere in the same building without changing product.
8) Is the CR27105 heavy enough for a high traffic entrance or a hospital corridor?
It is a heavy duty commercial threshold, built for high traffic doorways and used in office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouse, multi-tenant residential, and government work. It is not a residential-grade part.
9) Can I standardize on one threshold across a whole facility with the CR27105?
That is what the CR 2000 Series is for. The CR27105 is one profile in that Cal-Royal threshold line, so you can hold a single model number, two finishes, and four lengths across the building and keep spare stock down while staying inside the fire and accessibility requirements the openings carry.
