Cal-Royal DPF-2-DURO – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Cal-Royal DPF-2 floor closer handle a 36 inch glass door?
Yes. The DPF-2 is suggested for door widths of 29.5 to 39.4 inches (750-1000mm) and door weights up to 220 lbs (100kg), so a 36 inch glass leaf sits in the middle of its range. If your leaf is wider than 39.4 inches or heavier than 220 lbs, step up to a heavier closer body.
2) Is the Cal-Royal DPF-2 handed, or does one unit work for left and right swing doors?
One unit covers both. The DPF-2 is non-handed and gives a 150 degree angle of opening for left and right opening, which is what makes it work on double-action glass doors that swing both ways.
3) How much room do I need in the floor for the DPF-2 closer body?
The body measures 7.32 inches long, 2.68 inches wide and 1.42 inches thick (186 x 68 x 36mm). That 1.42 inch depth is the number to check against your slab or topping pour before you commit to a concealed floor closer.
4) Do I have to set the Cal-Royal DPF-2 floor closer in the floor before the glass goes in?
No floor preset is required. The DPF-2 uses an adjustable base seat that moves plus or minus 0.12 inch (3mm) backward and forward, plus or minus 0.12 inch (3mm) left and right, and allows 4 degrees of alignment adjustment, so you can true the door up after the case is in.
5) Does the Cal-Royal DPF-2 hold the door open, and can I get it without hold-open?
The stock DPF-2 includes a 90 degree hold-open. If you need the door to close every time, for example on a smoke or security opening, Cal-Royal offers a non hold-open version, model DFG888-NHO.
6) I need a floor closer for a heavy solid-core door, not glass. What should I use instead of the Cal-Royal DPF-2?
The Cal-Royal DPF-2 is a concealed glass floor closer with a 220 lb. door weight capacity, so it is aimed at glass door applications in that weight band. For heavier or offset-hung solid doors, the heavy duty options in the set are the Dorma BTS80 concealed floor closer body, the Norton Rixson H28 Series concealed floor closer for offset-hung doors, and the Norton Rixson 127 Series 3/4 in. offset floor closer for deep reveal applications. The H28 is listed Grade 1; the 127 Series is intended for deep reveal conditions.
7) What is the difference between the Cal-Royal DPF-2 and the Dorma BTS75V floor closer?
The Cal-Royal DPF-2 is a non-handed concealed floor closer for glass doors, rated for doors up to 220 lbs. and roughly 29.5 in. to 39.4 in. wide, with a 150 degree opening angle and a 90 degree hold-open in the stock unit. The Dorma BTS75V is supplied as a closer body only with cement case and less spindle, is listed Grade 1, and is a non hold-open function, so it will not park the door open. If the opening needs hold-open, the DPF-2 covers it out of the box; if a Grade 1 cement-case body is what the drawing calls for, the BTS75V is the one to look at.
8) My door needs to swing a full 180 degrees. Will the Cal-Royal DPF-2 do that?
The Cal-Royal DPF-2 is rated for a 150 degree angle of opening in both left and right directions for double-action use. For an opening that must reach 180 degrees, the Norton Rixson 20 Series 3/4 in. offset hung floor closer is listed with 180 degree door swing capability; it is a standard duty unit rather than a glass door closer.
9) Can I adjust the closing speed on the DPF-2 after installation?
Yes, the DPF-2 offers closing speed and braking speed adjustment so you can tune the sweep and the final latching action to the opening. That matters on glass entries where wind load or stack pressure changes how the leaf behaves.
10) I need a 3/4 inch offset floor closer for a deep reveal. Is the Cal-Royal DPF-2 the right one?
No. The DPF-2 is a concealed closer for glass doors with an adjustable base seat, not an offset-hung unit. For a 3/4 inch offset application use the Norton Rixson 127 Series, made for deep reveals, or the Norton Rixson 20 Series 3/4 inch offset hung closer if standard duty is enough.
11) Does the Cal-Royal DPF-2 come with a cement case, or do I order that separately?
The Cal-Royal DPF-2 is a concealed unit that installs with an adjustable base seat and requires no floor preset, which is what simplifies the alignment on glass door work. By contrast, the Norton Rixson 25 Series floor closer cement case is sold as a heavy-duty galvanized steel case on its own, and the Dorma BTS75V is a closer body supplied with cement case and less spindle while the Dorma BTS80 is a body only. Those are the units where the case and body are handled as separate line items.
12) Can I use the Cal-Royal DPF-2 on a fire-rated door?
The Cal-Royal DPF-2 is a commercial concealed glass floor closer with a 90 degree hold-open in the stock unit, and an optional non hold-open version is offered as DFG888-NHO. Hold-open is generally not acceptable on a fire door opening unless it is part of a listed release arrangement, so the non hold-open configuration is the one to price for that condition. Among the comparables, the Dorma BTS80 is listed with a fire rating of No, and the Dorma BTS75V is a non hold-open function unit.
13) Is the Norton Rixson 127 Series a drop-in substitute for the Cal-Royal DPF-2?
No. The Cal-Royal DPF-2 is a non-handed concealed closer for glass doors, 7.32 in. long by 2.68 in. wide by 1.42 in. thick, set up with an adjustable base seat for 150 degree double-action swing. The Norton Rixson 127 Series is a heavy duty 3/4 in. offset floor closer built for deep reveal applications, meaning the door is hung on an offset pivot arrangement rather than patched glass. The pivot geometry and floor prep differ, so the two are not interchangeable in an existing pocket.
14) Is the Cal-Royal DPF-2 rated for commercial traffic?
Yes, it is a commercial-rated floor closer, intended for office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, multi-tenant residential, and government facilities where double-action glass entries take constant use.
