1) What is a Calibre CA2200-00-DUMMY OHC body and why would I install a closer with no spring in it?
The CA2200-00-DUMMY is an overhead concealed closer body with the springs, pistons and hydraulic fluid left out. It mounts in the header exactly like a working OHC closer, but all it does is carry the top pivot and hold the door in alignment. You use it when the door doesn't need a concealed closer doing the closing: doors run by an automatic operator, or a door where a failed OHC unit is being replaced by a surface-mounted closer and you still need something in the header prep to pivot on.
2) My overhead concealed closer failed and I want to put a surface closer on instead. Can I leave the old OHC body in the header?
You can pull the dead unit and drop in the CA2200-00-DUMMY in its place. That is one of the jobs this body is built for. It fits standard 2200 Series OHC prep, so the existing header cutout and mounting take it without rework, and it keeps the door hanging on its top pivot while the new surface closer does the actual closing. Leaving a seized hydraulic body in the header usually means the arm is still fighting the surface closer; the dummy body removes that.
3) Do I have to order the Calibre 2200 dummy pivot body left hand or right hand?
No handing to specify. The CA2200-00-DUMMY is non-handed, so the same body works on a left or right hand opening. With no spring or hydraulics inside there is no closing direction to set, which is one less thing to get wrong when you are ordering for a mixed set of doors in a building.
4) What is the 3/4 inch extended spindle option on the Calibre CA2200 dummy body, and how do I know which one I need?
Two versions are built: standard spindle and 3/4 inch extended spindle. The spindle is what drops down out of the closer body into the top of the door, so the extended one is for openings where the gap between the header body and the door top rail is deeper than standard, typically a thicker header channel or a drop ceiling condition. Measure from the underside of the closer body to the top of the door before you order. If you're replacing an existing OHC unit, match the spindle projection you pull out.
5) Will the Calibre dummy body fit my existing overhead concealed closer pocket, or do I need to re-cut the header?
It goes into standard 2200 Series OHC prep. Mounting matches a regular 2200 Series concealed closer, so on a header already cut for one there is no new prep, no patching and no new frame. If your header was cut for a different manufacturer's concealed closer, the prep is not the 2200 pattern and this body is not a drop-in.
6) Does the Calibre CA2200-00-DUMMY close the door at all, or hold it open?
Neither. It's a passive top pivot and nothing more. There is no spring to pull the door shut, no hydraulic check to control the swing, and no hold-open. The door will stay wherever you leave it unless something else, an automatic operator or a surface-mounted closer, is doing the work. If the opening needs to self-close, this body alone will not do it.
7) I'm adding a low energy automatic operator to a door that has a concealed closer. Do I need a dummy pivot body?
If the operator is doing the closing, yes, that's exactly this part. Swapping the working OHC closer for the CA2200-00-DUMMY takes the spring and hydraulic resistance out of the opening so the operator isn't working against it, while the header still carries the door's top pivot. The door hangs and swings the same way; only the closing force is gone.
8) I've seen this called CDCCA2200-B-PIVOT. Is that the same part as the CA2200-00-DUMMY?
Same part, three names. Calibre's dummy overhead concealed body carries the model CA2200-00-DUMMY and also shows up as CDCCA2200-00-DUMMY and CDCCA2200-B-PIVOT depending on whose quote or takeoff you're reading. If a spec or an old order lists any of those, you're looking at the same non-spring 2200 Series top pivot body.
9) Do I still need a bottom pivot and floor prep if I use the Calibre dummy OHC body?
Yes. This body handles the header end only, it is a top pivot support, so the door still hangs on whatever bottom pivot or floor closer the opening already has. Replacing an active OHC closer with the dummy body doesn't change anything at the floor. Order the top body here and leave the bottom hardware in place.
