1) What is a single dummy lever and when would I use one instead of a passage lever?
A dummy lever is trim only. The Callan Lexington dummy lever surface mounts to the door face with no latch, no spindle, and no bore hardware behind it, so it does not operate anything. Use it where you want a lever to pull on but no latching: the inactive leaf of a French or double door, a closet or pantry door held shut by a ball catch or roller catch, or a false panel that needs matching trim. If you need the door to stay closed on its own, you need a passage lever with a latch instead. One lever and one rosette come in the single dummy.
2) Do I need to order a left hand or right hand Callan Lexington dummy lever?
No handing to specify. The Lexington dummy is fully reversible for left or right hand openings, so one part number covers either swing. If you are trimming both leaves of a pair, you order two singles and set each to point the correct way. Note that the single dummy mounts on one face only, so a door needing a lever on both sides takes two.

The Callan Lexington lever in US15 Satin Nickel is a dummy function, meaning it is surface mounted trim with no latch. If the door has to latch and lock, step to a keyed entry lever such as the Brinks Mendocino Series E2417, a keyed entry contemporary lever on a square rose that ships with a 4 way adjustable latch and a round corner full lip strike, or the Brinks Raleigh Series E2418, a keyed entry transitional wave lever on a round rose with the same 4 way adjustable latch and round corner full lip strike. Those two need a bored door prep and a strike mortise in the frame; the Lexington dummy does not.
5) How far does the Callan Lexington lever stick out from the door?
Projection is 1-7/8 inches off the door face. That is the number to check where a door swings back against a wall, in a tight corridor, or where a closet door sits close to adjacent millwork, because the lever is what makes contact first. It is also what you compare against the existing trim if you want the new lever to sit at the same depth as the levers already on the other doors.
6) Is the Callan Lexington dummy lever ADA compliant for a commercial building?
The Lexington meets ADA requirements, which for a lever means it operates without tight grasping, pinching, or wrist twisting. Worth knowing before you spec it though: it is a Grade 3 residential-duty lever, so for a commercial corridor or an institutional facility standardizing on Grade 1 or Grade 2 hardware it is the wrong duty class even where the door itself only needs dummy trim.

Grade 3 is the BHMA residential duty level, the lightest of the three, and the Lexington is catalogued as residential. For a leasing office entry, a corridor, or anything taking multi-family common-area traffic, step up to Grade 2 or Grade 1 trim. On a dummy specifically the grade matters less than on a working lockset, since there is no latch or cylinder to cycle, but it still governs the finish and the strength of the mounting.
8) Will the satin nickel finish on the Callan Lexington match my other door hardware?
The finish is US15 satin nickel, and US15 is the BHMA designation to match against, not the word on the box. If the levers on your other doors are listed as US15 or 619, they are the same nominal finish. Satin nickel is the only finish the Lexington dummy comes in, so where a building is standardized on satin chrome (US26D) or oil rubbed bronze it will not blend.
9) Do I need to drill the door to install a dummy lever?
Not a full lockset bore. A single dummy surface mounts, so it fastens to the door face rather than passing through a 2-1/8 inch cross bore, and one person can set it without holding parts on both sides. That also means if you are replacing a working lever on a door that already has a bore, the dummy will leave that hole uncovered unless the rosette lands over it, so plan for a filler plate or keep a passage lever on that opening.
10) Can I use a dummy lever on the inactive leaf of a double door?
That is one of the main uses for it. The inactive leaf is normally held by flush bolts or surface bolts top and bottom, so it needs a lever to pull on but no latch behind it, which is exactly what the Lexington dummy provides. 12) What is the Callan Lexington dummy lever made of, and will the screws show?
Zinc body, and yes, the screws are exposed. The Lexington is not a concealed screw rosette, so the fasteners are visible on the rose after mounting. If your spec calls for concealed fasteners on visible trim, this is not the one.
