CAMDEN CM-48 SERIES NO SWITCH PREP, 48" TALL MOUNTING POST

Camden mounting posts offer a superior method of mounting a switch, keypad, card reader, or other door activation device, when mounting adjacent to the door is difficult or unsuitable. The various preps allow for use with virtually any switch or door activation device. Mounting posts are available in stainless steel or aluminum. Aluminum posts offer the option for mill, brushed aluminum or dark bronze anodized finishes. The mounting post has provisions to be hard-wired, or for wireless operation utilizing Camden radio controls.

Camden Door Controls CM-48-CSU-CLR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does "no switch prep" mean on the Camden CM-48 mounting post?
It means the post ships without a factory cutout for an actuator. Camden offers the CM-48 post in various preps to suit virtually any switch, keypad, card reader or other door activation device; the no-prep version is the one you take when you are cutting your own opening or mounting a device that does not match a standard prep. If you want the hole already machined for your actuator, order a prepped version instead.
2) Can the Camden CM-48 post be set in concrete or does it bolt to a finished surface?
Both, depending on which mounting option you order. The in-ground base versions (CM-48-CSU-BRZ-IG, CM-48-CSU-CLR-IG, CM-48-CSU-MIL-IG) are for setting the post into the ground. The versions without a mounting base (CM-48-CSU-BRZ, CM-48-CSU-CLR, CM-48-CSU-MIL) are supplied bare. Pick the base option at time of order, since it is a different part number, not an add-on.
3) Do I have to run wire to a Camden CM-48 mounting post, or can it be wireless?
Either. The post has provisions for hard wiring and also for wireless operation using Camden radio controls, so if trenching conduit to an island or a parking-lot actuator is not practical, you can run the actuator on a Camden wireless transmitter instead. Wireless capability is a listed feature of the post.
4) When should I use a mounting post instead of putting the push plate on the wall next to the door?
Use a post when there is no suitable wall surface in the approach path, which is the common case at vestibules with full glass, at curbside and island locations, at wide walkways where the nearest wall is too far from the door swing, and where the actuator has to sit clear of the door's path of travel. Camden posts are made for exactly that situation, and they take a switch, keypad, card reader or other activation device. If you have a solid jamb or wall in a usable spot, a wall-mounted actuator is simpler and cheaper.
5) What finishes does the Camden CM-48 aluminum bollard post come in?
Three anodized aluminum finishes: dark bronze anodized (CM-48-CSU-BRZ), clear aluminum (CM-48-CSU-CLR), and milled aluminum (CM-48-CSU-MIL). Each is available with or without the in-ground base, giving six orderable combinations. If you are matching other openings on a property, dark bronze is the usual pick alongside bronze storefront; clear reads closest to a 628 aluminum storefront frame.
6) What voltage does the Camden CM-48 post's door control run on?
The CM-48 series door control works on 12VAC/DC, 24VDC or 24VAC, drawing 40 mA. That matches the output of most standard access control power supplies and operator boards, so you can generally pick it up off the auto operator's accessory power rather than pulling a separate supply.
7) What are the relay contacts on the Camden CM-48 series rated for?
One SPDT relay rated 3 amps at 30 V. That is a dry contact suited to signalling an automatic operator, a mag lock controller or an access panel input, not to switching a lock's load directly. If you need more than one output, the post's control carries a single relay.
8) Can the Camden CM-48 be configured fail-safe or fail-secure in the field?
Fail-safe versus fail-secure is field selectable, so you set the behavior on site rather than committing to it at the order desk. The relay is multi-function with event and toggle operating modes, and it accepts REX and door contact inputs, which covers most single-door operator and mag lock arrangements.
9) Is the Camden CM-48 post stainless or aluminum?
The CM-48-CSU versions are aluminum, offered in dark bronze anodized, clear and milled finishes. Camden does build mounting posts in stainless steel as well, but those are separate part numbers from the aluminum ones listed here. For coastal or wash-down exterior work, ask for the stainless post rather than an anodized aluminum one.
10) Is the Camden CM-48 post rated for commercial use?
It is a commercial access control product, intended for building entrances, healthcare and institutional openings and similar traffic rather than residential use. Installation instructions and the specification sheet for the CM-42/CM-48 series are published by Camden and cover the mounting and wiring detail.
