Metallics 1224CTPE – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a 12-24 tap plug close a conduit knockout?
No. The 1224CTPE fits a threaded 12-24 hole, not a punched knockout. A plain knockout in a box or panel needs a knockout seal or closure plug sized to that knockout diameter, not a machine thread plug.
2) What material is the Metallics 12-24 tap plug made of, and where should I not use it?
Carbon steel. That is fine for dry indoor enclosures and panel work, but bare carbon steel is not the choice for wet, outdoor or corrosive locations, where a stainless or plated fitting is the better call.
3) How many tap plugs come in a pack of the Metallics 1224CTPE?
One piece per pack, supplied in a pouch. If you are closing off several unused knockouts or spare tapped holes across a job, order the quantity you need up front rather than assuming a multi-pack.
4) What is a tap plug like the Metallics 1224CTPE actually used for?
It threads into an unused tapped hole to close it off. On electrical work that usually means a spare 12-24 hole in a box, enclosure or fitting that was drilled and tapped but never used, so the opening gets sealed instead of being left open.
