Carlon E98SRCN-CAR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Carlon E98SRCN weatherproof cover fit a standard 15 amp duplex receptacle?
The Carlon gray weatherproof cover is made for 15 amp receptacles, and that is the opening it is cut for. If the device in the box is a 20 amp receptacle with the T-slot neutral, or a GFCI with a decorator-style face, the cutout will not line up and you need a cover matched to that device instead.
2) Can a Carlon non-metallic weatherproof cover be used outdoors in full sun without fading or cracking?
Yes, it's a UV resistant cover specified for outdoor use, so direct sun exposure is the application it was formulated for. Being non-metallic, there's also no rust to deal with on coastal or poolside installs where a steel cover would corrode.
3) Can I paint the Carlon gray weatherproof cover to match my building exterior?
Yes. The surface is paintable, and it's textured so minor scratches and scuffs don't show. Useful when you're standardizing exterior receptacle locations across a property and want them to disappear into the siding or trim instead of reading as gray plastic.
4) Does this Carlon weatherproof cover have any knockouts for running conduit or cord entry?
No knockouts, it's a solid device cover. If you need a cord or conduit to pass through the cover itself, as with an in-use pump or holiday lighting feed, this isn't the part. Specify a cover with the entry provision you need.
5) Is a non-metallic weatherproof cover a better choice than a metal one for pool and marine receptacles?
For wet and salt-exposed locations, the non-metallic version avoids the problem metal covers have, which is corrosion at the screw holes and gasket face. This Carlon cover is non-metallic and UV rated, which is why it gets used on pool and spa circuits, landscape lighting, irrigation controls, and RV and marine power points. A metal cover is still the call where physical abuse is the main risk.
6) What is the Carlon part number to order for the gray 15 amp weatherproof receptacle cover?
Order it as Carlon E98SRCN. It ships in gray as a retail pack, and that number is what to put on a purchase order when you're matching existing covers already installed on a site.
