Kraloy 78885 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will Kraloy 78885 solvent cement bond PVC electrical conduit and fittings?
Yes. Kraloy 78885 is a PVC solvent cement formulated for PVC conduit and fittings, and it makes a watertight joint. It is a PVC-to-PVC product only, so it is not the right material for CPVC, ABS, or transition joints between dissimilar plastics.
2) How much cement is in the Kraloy 78885 can, and roughly what size job does a quart cover?
It is a quart, 946 ml, with an applicator cap (dauber) built into the lid. That is the size most electricians reach for on a full conduit run or a multi-day job rather than a single repair; for one or two couplings a pint or smaller is easier to handle before the can skins over.
3) Is this a low-VOC PVC cement suitable for work in occupied buildings?
Kraloy's PVC solvent cement uses a low VOC formula, which is what jurisdictions and facility managers usually ask about for indoor conduit work. It is still a flammable solvent product, so ventilate the space and keep ignition sources away while joints are being made.
4) Do I need a separate dauber or brush to apply Kraloy 78885?
No. The quart can has an applicator cap built in, so the dauber comes attached to the lid and you apply straight from the can. What it does not include is PVC primer or cleaner, which many inspectors and specs still require ahead of cement on conduit joints, so order that separately if your job calls for it.
5) Can Kraloy PVC cement be used on underground and wet-location conduit runs?
It is made for exactly that kind of work. The joint it forms is watertight, and Kraloy lists the cement for underground installations such as subways and tunnels, water and sewage treatment plants, marine sites like marinas and bridges, and utility and street lighting duct runs.
6) Where is Kraloy solvent cement made?
It is manufactured in the United States, which matters if you are buying under a domestic-content or Buy American procurement requirement on a government, transit, or institutional project.
