New work only. The Centaur PSB-ADJ Series mounts on a steel stud bracket that nails or screws to the framing before drywall goes up, so the stud has to be exposed. For an existing finished wall you need a cut-in (old work) box with wing clamps instead.
2) How many devices and conductors will a 21 cu in single gang plastic switch box hold?
The 1-gang Centaur PSB-ADJ is 21 cubic inches, the 2-gang is 34, and the 3-gang is 49. Box fill under the NEC is counted in cubic inches per conductor, device yoke and clamps, so pick the gang size by your device count and then verify the fill math for your wire gauge. 21 cu in is on the roomy side for a single switch box, which helps when you are pulling a couple of 14/2 or 12/2 runs plus a ground pigtail through it.
3) Are the Centaur PSB-ADJ plastic boxes fire rated and listed?
