Klein Tools VDV110-095 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which coax cable types does the Klein VDV110-095 radial stripper handle?
The VDV110-095 preps RG59, RG6, RG6Q, RG7 and RG11 coax. The high-carbon steel blades self-adjust to the different cable diameters, so you are not swapping cartridges or resetting depth between a drop line and a heavier RG11 run.
2) Does this coax stripper cut both the jacket and the dielectric in one pass, or do I need two tools?
One pass. It is a 2-level stripper: a single rotation cuts both steps at 5/16 inch and 1/4 inch (7.94 and 6.35 mm), which is the standard prep for a compression F-connector. No second tool and no second setting.
3) Can I use the Klein VDV110-095 on live circuits or anywhere near energized wiring?
No. It is not insulated and will not protect against electrical shock. Klein's own warning is explicit: never use it on or near live electrical circuits, and wear approved eye protection. For low-voltage coax work on de-energized cable it is fine; for anything energized it is the wrong tool.
4) Is a radial stripper better than a utility knife or a plier-style stripper for coax prep?
For coax specifically, a rotating radial stripper is the controlled option: the tool spins around the cable and the blades cut to fixed depths, so you do not nick the center conductor or score the braid the way a knife does. The VDV110-095 has a finger loop so you can rotate it one-handed up on a ladder, and the body clears debris so shavings do not pack the blades. A plier-type stripper is still the better choice for solid and stranded building wire, which this tool does not address.
5) Does the VDV110-095 work on hardline or flooded utility coax, or just standard CATV drop cable?
Both. Klein positions it for the data installer who works with utility cable as well as standard cable, and the cable range covers RG59 through RG11 including RG6Q quad shield. Flooded compound is where debris clean-out earns its keep, since the tool is built to clear packed shavings and gel out of the blade area.
6) I have crews standardizing on one coax prep tool. Is the strip length adjustable or fixed?
Fixed, and that is the point for a crew. Every strip comes out at 5/16 inch of jacket back and 1/4 inch of center conductor exposed, so prep is identical from installer to installer with no dial to drift out of adjustment. The compromise is that if your connector spec calls for a different strip dimension, this tool will not be reset to it.
7) What is the Klein part number and how do I identify it on a jobsite?
Order it as Klein Tools VDV110-095. On the job it is identified by the yellow and gray handle and the finger loop on the body, with the model stamped on the tool.
