It's a flexible braided copper connector used to make a current-carrying link between two bolted terminal pads, typically on switchgear, transformers, bus connections, and isolators where the joint has to absorb vibration, thermal expansion, or slight misalignment. The conductor is flat, extra-flexible braid rather than solid bar, so it bends without putting stress on the bushings or pads it bolts to. It has a two-hole pad on each end and is rated 1500A.

Yes. The 1500A rating is a maximum ampacity, so using the EXB150A1457 on an 800A or 1200A connection is derating, not a problem. What actually has to match is the bolt pattern: this end is a two-hole pad, so your equipment pads need two-hole prep with matching hole spacing and bolt diameter. Going the other direction, do not use it above 1500A.

The conductor is tin-plated copper. The tin plating is what lets you bolt it to aluminum pads and bus without the bare copper-to-aluminum contact that drives galvanic corrosion, and it holds up better than bare copper in damp or industrial atmospheres. Still use the joint compound and torque your utility or switchgear spec calls for.

Use rigid bus or a solid copper link where both pads are fixed, aligned, and nothing moves. Go to flexible braid like this one when there's vibration, thermal cycling that makes the bus grow and shrink, equipment that has to be racked or drawn out, or pads that don't line up perfectly. Braid takes that movement instead of transferring it into the bushing or insulator. It is the more forgiving install; rigid bar is the cheaper and more mechanically stable one.

It's sold each, one braid assembly per unit. Hardware is not part of the assembly, so plan on supplying the bolts, nuts, flat and Belleville washers, and joint compound to suit your pad thickness and hole size. Order one braid per phase, plus any neutral or ground connection you're making.

Flat. The conductor shape is flat braid, which gives you more surface area for heat dissipation and lets the connector flex in one plane while staying compact in tight cubicles. If your application needs bending in every direction or a round cable lug termination, this flat two-hole pad braid is the wrong geometry for it.
