Corbin Russwin 253K66-60-626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Corbin Russwin 253K66 cylinder plug actually fit?
The 253K66 is a replacement plug for Corbin Russwin 3000 Series rim cylinders. It is the rotating core that the key enters, not a complete cylinder, so it goes into an existing 3000 Series rim cylinder shell. If you need a whole cylinder for a new opening, this part alone won't do it.
2) Can I rekey a Corbin Russwin 3000 rim cylinder with a new plug instead of buying a whole cylinder?
Yes, that is what the 253K66 is for. It lets you restore or change over a 3000 Series rim cylinder without replacing the full assembly, which is how most locksmiths handle a compromised or worn plug across a fleet of doors.
3) Will a 253K66 plug work in a mortise cylinder or a key-in-knob cylinder?
No. The 253K66 is a rim cylinder plug. Mortise and key-in-knob cylinders use different plug geometry, so you need the plug specified for that cylinder type instead.
4) What finishes does the 253K66 plug come in, and does it have to match my other hardware?
Two finishes: 606 satin brass and 626 satin chrome. Both keyway options are offered in either, so you can match the plug face to the trim on the rest of the opening. Only the visible plug face shows once installed, so on a mixed-finish building match it to the cylinder ring or rose it sits behind.
