Corbin Russwin ML20932-LL Fail Secure Electrified Mortise Lock Body with Double Cylinder Override, Lever x Lever

Grade 1 Electrified Mortise Lock Body for High-Traffic Commercial Applications

The Corbin Russwin ML20932-LL is a Grade 1 fail secure electrified mortise lock body from the ML2000 Series, engineered for demanding commercial, institutional, industrial, and government environments. In fail secure operation, both grips are locked when the lock is not energized, and the latchbolt is operable by grip from either side only when the lock is energized; the latchbolt remains operable by key inside or outside when not energized, and an auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt for added security. Constructed of heavy-gauge steel with a 1" stainless steel deadbolt and patented Quick Reversible latchbolt, this lock body is designed for 1-3/4" (44mm) standard door thickness and features field-reversible handing. The included ANSI straight lip strike measures 4-7/8" (124mm) x 1-1/4" (32mm) x 1-1/8" (29mm) lip to center, and the unit draws 500mA peak and 15mA holding current.

Corbin Russwin ML20932-LL-626-SEC – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens to the Corbin Russwin ML20932 mortise lock when the power drops?
It locks. The ML20932 is a fail secure function: with no power, both lever grips are locked, so the door stays secured on a power loss. The latchbolt is still retractable by key from either side when de-energized (double cylinder override), and the grips only operate the latchbolt while the lock is energized. If your opening is an egress path that has to free-wheel on power loss, this is the wrong function and you want a fail safe body instead.
2) Will the ML20932 mortise lock fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
No. The ML20932 lock body is built for 1-3/4 inch (44mm) door thickness, which is the standard commercial leaf. Corbin Russwin offers optional thicknesses on the ML2000 Series, but that is a specified option, not something the standard body covers. For a 1-3/8 inch wood door you would be specifying a different preparation.
3) What backset and pocket size do I need to mortise for a Corbin Russwin ML2000 lock body?
Plan for a 2-3/4 inch (70mm) backset and a lockcase pocket sized to 5-7/8 x 4 x 15/16 inches. The armored front is 8 x 1-1/4 inches. Center to center, lever to cylinder is 3-5/8 inches and lever to thumbturn is 2-7/16 inches, so a door already prepped to the ANSI mortise standard for Corbin Russwin ML2000 takes it without rework.
4) Will this lock latch into the strike already in my frame?
The latchbolt throws 3/4 inch (19mm) and the deadbolt throws 1 inch, and the lock ships against an ANSI straight lip strike measuring 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches with a 1-1/8 inch lip to center. If your frame carries a standard ANSI mortise strike cutout at that size, it drops in. A frame with a non-ANSI or shallow-lip strike needs the supplied strike installed instead, and the 9/16 inch auxiliary latchbolt has to land on the strike face to deadlock the main latch.
5) What current does the ML20932 electrified mortise lock draw for sizing a power supply?
500mA peak inrush and 15mA holding. Size the supply and wire run for the 500mA peak, not the holding figure, and budget that per leaf if you are putting several electrified mortise bodies on one supply.
6) Can I get request-to-exit monitoring on this electrified mortise lock?
Yes, RX is an ordering option on the ML20932 and you pick it at the time of order, with or without. The RX switch signals the access control panel when the inside lever is turned, so a valid egress does not read as a forced door. Specify it up front; it is a factory option in the body, not something added later.
7) What is included with the ML20932, and what else do I need to order to finish the door?
This is a lock body only. You get the electrified mortise case with strike; levers, roses or escutcheons, and cylinders are separate. Plan on lever x lever trim, two cylinders for the double cylinder override, a power transfer hinge or electric door loop to get power into the leaf, and a power supply rated for the 500mA peak draw.
8) Can I key this Corbin Russwin mortise lock into my existing master key system?
Yes. The ML2000 body works with new or existing Corbin Russwin key systems and accepts most other manufacturers' cylinders, so a building already keyed on another brand can usually carry over. Standard cylinder is brass, 6-pin, L4 keyway, supplied 0-bitted for the locksmith to key on site.
9) Is the ML20932 approved for a fire rated opening?
Yes. The ML2000 mortise lock is UL/cUL listed and UL10C positive pressure rated, good for a 3-hour fire door up to 4 x 10 feet single or 8 x 10 feet in a pair. It also carries ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000 Grade 1 for both operational and security, ADA A117.1, California State Fire Marshal listing, and windstorm/hurricane certification.
10) What is a comparable Grade 1 mortise lock body if I do not need an electrified function?
The Accentra 8800FL Series mortise lock body is a Grade 1 mortise lock body with field reversible handing, which covers a straight mechanical opening. The Corbin Russwin ML20932 is a Grade 1 fail secure electrified mortise lock body: both grips are locked when the lock is not energized and the latchbolt is operable by grip from either side only when the lock is energized, drawing 500mA peak and 15mA holding. If the door has no power run to it and no access control tie-in, the mechanical 8800FL body is the one that suits; if the opening is controlled by a card reader or release, the electrified ML20932 is required.
11) I need request-to-exit signalling at the door - does the Accentra 8800FL body cover that?
The Accentra 8800FL Series is a Grade 1 mortise lock body with field reversible handing and is the mechanical choice. When the access control system needs to see the door, the Corbin Russwin ML20932 fail secure electrified body is offered both with and without request to exit monitoring, so the monitoring is specified on the body itself rather than added as separate door hardware.
12) Is this mortise lock durable enough for a school or hospital corridor?
It is built for that traffic. Heavy-gauge steel lockcase, one-piece stainless deadbolt, and UL cycle verification at 14.5 million cycles (Verification ID V875753), well past the Grade 1 minimum. The two-piece anti-friction latchbolt also reduces closing force, which matters on a closer-equipped corridor door that gets slammed all day.
13) Is the ML20932 a standalone electronic lock or does it need an access control system?
It is not a standalone electronic lock, there is no reader, keypad or credential logic in it. The body is an electrified mechanical mortise lock that takes a 12 or 24V feed from your access control system to release the levers. Without a panel or at minimum a switched power supply, the door behaves as key-only from both sides.
14) Do I have to order handed on a Corbin Russwin ML20932, or can it be reversed in the field like the Accentra 8800FL body?
Both bodies reverse in the field. The Corbin Russwin ML20932 is field reversible, using a patented Quick Reversible latchbolt that re-hands without disassembling the lock case, and the Accentra 8800FL Series mortise lock body is likewise offered with field reversible handing. For a property manager stocking spares across a building, either body can be carried without splitting inventory by hand.
15) Will an Accentra 8800FL mortise body drop into the same prep as the Corbin Russwin ML20932?
Both are Grade 1 mortise lock bodies that mortise into a standard ANSI mortise pocket, but they are not interchangeable parts. The ML20932 is a 2-3/4 inch backset body for 1-3/4 inch doors with a heavy-gauge steel lockcase measuring 5-7/8 inch x 4 inch x 15/16 inch, and it is electrified, so the door also needs a power transfer and wire run that a mechanical body does not use. Confirm the existing pocket depth, armored front cutout, and trim spacing before swapping between manufacturers, and expect to change the trim and cylinder along with the body.
16) What finishes does the ML20932 mortise lock come in?
Fifteen: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 611 bright bronze, 612 satin bronze, 613 satin bronze oil-rubbed, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze equivalent, 618 bright nickel, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, 722 black oxidized bronze oil-rubbed, and BSP black suede powder coat. 626 and 630 are the usual commercial defaults if you are matching existing hardware in an office or institutional building.
