Southwire 2587SW8802 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Southwire 2587SW8802 extension cord be used outdoors on a jobsite or for landscaping?
Yes. The 2587SW8802 is an all purpose indoor/outdoor cord with an SJTW flexible vinyl jacket that resists moisture, abrasion and sunlight, so it holds up for landscaping, gardening and running appliances outside. The yellow jacket keeps it visible as a trip hazard and won't mark floors or walls when it's run indoors.
2) Is the Southwire 2587SW8802 cord UL Listed?
Yes, the 12/3 25 foot SJTW yellow cord is UL Listed. That is the one listing stated for it, which matters for facilities and institutional buyers who require listed cordage on site.
3) How many tools can I plug into this Southwire 12/3 cord at once?
One. The 2587SW8802 has a single outlet on the female end, not a triple tap. If you need to run several tools from one cord drop, you'll want a multi-outlet cord or a separate power block at the end.
4) What does the lighted end on the Southwire 2587SW8802 do?
The female end has an indicator light that glows when the cord is energized. On a long run or a daisy chain it tells you at a glance whether the breaker tripped or someone unplugged the other end, instead of you walking the cord back to the panel.
5) Do the prongs on this Southwire extension cord bend easily when pulled from an outlet?
The 2587SW8802 uses reinforced blades on the plug, which is specifically there to keep the prongs from bending or snapping when the cord gets yanked or dragged. That is the usual failure point on cords in rental and multi-family maintenance fleets.
