Jackson® Exit Devices are universally recognized as the standard for aluminum storefront hardware. This crossbar designed with simplicity in mind, yet it will provide many years of smooth, reliable operation. Available in both a Rim and Concealed Vertical Rod version this device is suitable for use with 1-3/4" (44.5 mm) narrow, medium, and wide stile aluminum, wood, or hollow metal doors. The 48" (1.22 m) long contoured crossbar is field sizeable, and the device is shipped to fit up to 84" (2.13 m) tall door. Extensions for taller doors are available. The 10 Series Exit Device is the perfect solution when considering a reliable maintenance free means to satisfy life safety requirements.


This device is supplied standard with a 48" crossbar for use with doors up to 48" wide. The customer can cut the bar to exact length needed. For Locking Outside Entry: Use 8500LV02313 Locking Lever Trim or Cylinder Only: Use DL2170 OR DRA50 Type Mortise Cylinder with MS Cam - Will Require use of 3089610958313 Cylinder Mounting Pad. Panic Ships Standard for use with 7/0 (84") doors. Taller doors require use of Extension No. 301347 Top Rod Extender in 12" increments.

Yes, and it is meant to be. The 1085 ships with a 48 inch (1.22 m) contoured crossbar sized for doors up to 48 inches wide, and the bar is field sizeable, so you cut it to the exact length on site. Standard application is a 36 inch (914 mm) wide door; widths out to 48 inches are a special order configuration.
3) How do I add outside key access to the Jackson 1085 concealed vertical rod device?
The 1085 is exit only out of the box, so outside entry is a separate order line. Two routes: the 8500LV02313 locking lever trim for a lever pull with key control, or cylinder only using a DL2170 or DRA50 type mortise cylinder with an MS cam, which also requires the 3089610958313 cylinder mounting pad. Skip the mounting pad and the cylinder-only setup does not mount.
4) My storefront door has a very narrow stile. Is the Jackson 1085 still the right device?
The 1085 is catalogued wide stile, though it is sold for narrow, medium and wide stile 1-3/4 inch aluminum doors. If your stile will not take it, the true narrow stile concealed vertical rod devices are the Adams Rite 8600 Series for aluminum doors, the Von Duprin 3347A-EO, and the Falcon 24-C, all Grade 1. The Von Duprin 5547 and 7547 are narrow stile crossbar devices if you want to keep the crossbar feel of the Jackson.
5) My storefront doors are narrow stile aluminum. Is the CRL Jackson 1085 the right concealed vertical rod device, or is there one built for narrow stile?
The CRL Jackson 1085 Series covers narrow, medium, and wide stile 1-3/4 inch aluminum, wood, or hollow metal doors with a 48 inch field-sizeable crossbar. If you want a device designed specifically around a narrow stile aluminum door, the Adams Rite 8600 Series is a narrow stile concealed vertical rod exit device for aluminum doors, and the Von Duprin 3347A-3ft is a narrow stile Grade 1 concealed vertical rod device at 36 inches for 1-3/4 inch doors. The Von Duprin 5547-3ft is the narrow stile 36 inch crossbar version, which matches the crossbar actuation of the 1085.
6) The 1085 is exit only. What concealed vertical rod device should I use if the outside needs a lever that unlocks with a key?

The Falcon 1491DT is a dummy trim narrow stile concealed vertical rod device with a 9970 pull; it carries the same concealed vertical rod description but its function is dummy, so it does not release the door as the CRL Jackson 1085 panic exit device does. The Sargent 12-MD8613 also reads as a close wide stile match, but it is classroom function rather than exit only. And the Von Duprin 3347A-EO is exit only but is a less bottom rod device, so the bottom of the opening is prepped differently than a full top-and-bottom rod device.
