1) What wire sizes does the Blackburn CFS22-1 H-tap connector accept on the main and the tap?
The CFS22-1 takes a main conductor in the .258 to .204 inch diameter range and a tap conductor from .162 to .258 inch. Those ranges correspond to the 4 through 2 main and 6 through 2 tap range in the part description, so a single tap off a #2 or #4 main run is what this fits. If your main run is larger than that diameter band, it is the wrong H-tap.
2) Is the Blackburn CFS22-1 a copper connector, and can I use it on aluminum conductors?
It is a copper H-type tap, bare with no plating or coating on the surface. Copper H-taps are for copper-to-copper connections; do not put aluminum conductors in it. There is no insulation on the body either, so the finished connection has to be taped or covered per your installation practice.
3) Does the CFS22-1 need a compression tool, or can it be tightened with a wrench?
Compression only. This is a C-tap style crimp sleeve, not a mechanical set-screw or bolted tap, so it is installed with a hydraulic or battery compression tool and the correct die for the sleeve. If you want a connection you can install with hand tools and take apart later, you need a mechanical split-bolt or set-screw tap instead.
4) How long is the Blackburn CFS22-1 barrel, and will it fit in a tight pedestal or handhole?
The sleeve is 13/16 inch long, so it is a short body that crimps in a single die location. That keeps it workable in pedestals, handholes and crowded splice boxes where a longer bolted tap would not turn. Allow room for the compression tool head around the sleeve, not just the sleeve itself.
