Klein Tools 818-16 Curved-Claw Hammer Heavy Duty

The 818-16 carries a 16 oz (454 g) head on a 13 inch (33 cm) handle, with the whole tool coming in at 1.9 lb (0.8 kg). That is the general-purpose weight class: nailing off blocking, strapping, punch list and service work, driving and pulling common nails. Crews doing sustained framing usually reach for a heavier head and a longer handle for the extra swing energy. Curved claw. The curve gives more leverage for backing nails out, which is what you want on demo of finish work, pulling misdriven nails, and service calls where you are taking something apart without wrecking the surface. That is the usual way a fiberglass hammer dies, and the 818-16 is built against it. The neck carries a durable plastic-alloy jacket that protects it from fraying and splintering when the handle takes the hit instead of the head. Overstrike is normal on a jobsite, especially toe-nailing and working overhead, so the jacketing is the part that decides how long the tool lasts.

Klein's own instruction on the 818-16 is to always wear approved eye protection. Struck-tool work throws nail fragments and masonry chips, and on most commercial and institutional sites eye protection is already a condition of being on the floor.
