Delaney Tralee - Single Cylinder Handleset with Interior Trim

Single-CylinderSingle Cylinder Keyed Entry: Single cylinder handlesets are keyed on the exterior with an associated thumbturn on the inside that unlocks the door. The exterior handle has a thumb plate and the interior handle features a lever or knob. Single cylinder locks are most commonly used to secure entrances to a residence or place of business.

An inviting home starts at the front door. The smooth curves of the Tralee handle set provide the modern or traditional look for both designers and residential homeowners. Easy to install and available in multiple finishes/colors. An active handle set has key access from the exterior and a turn button on the inside. A dummy handle set has no cylinder and typically mounts to a set of doors for aesthetics. A double cylinder handset locks and unlocks with a key only (check for code in your given area).

Delaney Hardware D40700 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Delaney Tralee handleset fit my existing front door holes?
If your current handleset has 5-1/2 inches between the centers of the top and bottom door holes, the Tralee drops right in. It uses a 2-1/8 inch cross bore and a 1 inch edge bore, which is the standard prep on most residential entry doors, and the latch adjusts to either a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset so you do not need to know which one your door was bored for. The latch faceplate has round corners, so it matches an existing round-corner mortise in the door edge.
2) Is the Delaney Tralee handleset handed? Do I need to order left or right?
The Tralee is handed left or right, so you do need to know which way your door swings before ordering. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your left it is a left hand door, on your right it is right hand. Get this wrong and the thumbpiece and interior trim will not operate correctly.
3) Can the Delaney Tralee be keyed to match the rest of my keys?
Yes on both counts. The cylinder is a 5 pin and you pick the keyway when you order, either KW1 5-pin Standard or SC1 5-pin, so you can match whichever key system is already on the property. Keying is also a required selection: keyed different, keyed alike, or a key charge option if you need specific bitting. Any keyed products ordered together are keyed alike by default, and the lock can be rekeyed later to an existing key.
4) Do I have to choose an interior knob or lever separately with the Tralee handleset?
Yes, the interior trim is a required selection, not an assumption. You pick one from the Delaney trim range, either a knob (Belton, Derby, Galway, Olivia, Aubryn, Orlyn) or a lever (Cira, Dayton, ET Style, Kerry, Kira, Lashbrook, Logan, Milton, RD, VL, Tulina round or square, Vida round or square, Voncet). If the door is on an accessible route or serves someone who has trouble gripping, take a lever. Trim finishes run satin nickel, black, Tuscany bronze, polished brass and polished chrome depending on the style, so you can match or deliberately contrast the exterior escutcheon.
5) Is a Grade 3 handleset good enough for a rental property front door?
Grade 3 is the residential duty level, and the Tralee is built as residential hardware in zinc. For a single family rental or a condo front door it is a reasonable spec. For a multifamily building entry, a leasing office, or any door that gets dozens of cycles a day, step up: the Bravura handlesets we carry, such as the 913-Savannah or the 971-Austin, are Grade 2. Grade 2 is the higher cycle and strength tier of the two.
6) What should I use instead of a Tralee handleset on an interior door that does not need a key?
The Tralee is a single cylinder keyed handleset built for an exterior entry door. For a hall, closet or other non-keyed interior opening, the Schlage Residential J10 Builders Basics knob is a Grade 3 passage lock with a 2-3/8 inch or 2-3/4 inch adjustable backset and round corner faceplate, matching the Tralee's adjustable backset and round corner latch prep so it drops into the same bore. The Schlage Residential F10 Accent lever is a Grade 2 passage lock with a dual backset latch if a lever is wanted on the interior door instead of a knob.
7) What is the closest equivalent to the Delaney Tralee single cylinder handleset from another brand?
The Callan Visconti single cylinder handleset with interior trim is the nearest match. Like the Tralee, it is a Grade 3 single cylinder handleset supplied with interior trim, so it covers the same keyed-exterior, thumbturn-interior entry opening at the same grade. The Callan Briona single cylinder handleset with interior trim is a second Grade 3 option in the same configuration, differing in the handle styling of the Briona series rather than in function.
8) Is there a higher graded handleset than the Delaney Tralee for a heavier traffic entrance?
The Tralee is Grade 3. If the opening calls for a higher graded handleset, the Bravura Savannah 913, Jacksonville 915 and Austin 971 handlesets are Grade 2 and each ship with the 615 interior plate and the 906-Macon interior knob. The Bravura Montgomery 973 is also Grade 2 and comes with the 672 interior plate and the 939-Charlotte interior lever, which is the one to pick when the inside of the door needs a lever instead of a knob.
9) I need credentialed access on the entry instead of a key. What replaces the Tralee handleset?
The Tralee is a mechanical single cylinder handleset with a 5-pin KW1 cylinder, so access is by cut key. Where the entrance needs credentials rather than keys, the Paxton PaxLock Pro Galaxy lever latch lock is an access controlled alternative: it is battery powered with a dual frequency reader at 13.56 MHz and 2.4 GHz, supports Bluetooth and AES128, is UL, FCC and ISED listed, and fits a 1-3/4 inch door thickness. It is a lever latch lock, so the door gets lever trim rather than a handleset grip.
10) What does single cylinder mean on the Tralee handleset, and is it right for a glass front door?
Single cylinder means a key on the outside and a thumbturn on the inside, so anyone indoors can unlock without a key. That is the usual choice for a residential or small business entry. Where there is glass in or beside the door, some jurisdictions restrict a thumbturn within reach of the glass and call for a double cylinder, which is keyed on both sides. Check your local code before you pick. If the code allows it, the single cylinder Tralee is the easier one to live with, because you are not hunting for a key to get out.
11) How much room does the Tralee handleset need on the door, and how far does the handle stick out?
Plan for 16-1/4 inches of overall height on the exterior escutcheon, with 8-3/8 inches between grip centers and a handle projection of 1-13/16 inches. The interior trim is 11-9/16 inches high by 2-5/8 inches wide. The projection number is the one to watch on a door that swings against a wall, a storm door, or a narrow entry vestibule, and the 16-1/4 inch height matters if there is a light, a sidelite mull, or a panel line close to the lock stile.
12) What else could I buy instead of the Delaney Tralee handleset?
At the same Grade 3 residential level, the Callan Visconti and Callan Briona single cylinder handlesets are the direct equivalents, both supplied with interior trim in the same way. If you want a heavier duty entry set, the Bravura Grade 2 handlesets are the step up: the 913-Savannah, 915-Jacksonville and 971-Austin come with an interior knob, and the 973-Montgomery comes with the 939-Charlotte interior lever if you want a lever inside without configuring it separately.
13) What is the difference between an active, dummy, and double cylinder handleset?
An active handleset has key access from outside and a turn button inside, which is what the Tralee single cylinder is. A dummy handleset has no cylinder at all and no latch, it just mounts for looks, usually on the inactive leaf of a double door. A double cylinder set takes a key on both sides, which some areas restrict for egress. If you have a pair of front doors, you order one active set for the operating leaf and a dummy for the other.
14) Will a Schlage F10 or J10 work as a replacement for a Delaney Tralee handleset?
No. The Tralee is a single cylinder handleset, keyed on the exterior with a thumbturn inside, and it covers a two-hole front door with 5-1/2 inch spacing between the top and bottom center bores. The Schlage Residential F10 Accent lever and the J10 Builders Basics knob are both passage locks, so neither locks or takes a key, and both are single bore trim rather than a full handleset escutcheon. They serve interior openings, not a keyed entrance.
15) Does the Delaney Tralee fit the same door thickness as a Schlage residential lock?
Yes. The Tralee handleset fits doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick, which is the same door thickness range published for the Schlage Residential F10 Accent lever and the Schlage Residential J10 Builders Basics knob. A door that already takes those Schlage residential locks is within the Tralee's thickness range.
16) What is the difference between the Delaney Tralee handleset and an Emtek knob?
They are not interchangeable. The Tralee is a keyed single cylinder handleset covering a two-bore front door with 5-1/2 inch center to center hole spacing, an 8-3/8 inch grip center to center and a 16-1/4 inch overall height. The Emtek Select Brass Conical Stem Dark Walnut knob is a passage function knob, so it is unkeyed single bore door trim and will not fill or secure a handleset opening.
17) If I want a lever on the inside of the entry door instead of a knob, what are my options across brands?
The Delaney Tralee handleset is ordered with the interior trim selected, and the choices include levers such as the Cira, Dayton, Kerry, Kira, Logan, Milton and Tulina in finishes including US15 Satin Nickel, US26 Polished Chrome, US19 Black and US12P Tuscany Bronze. Across brands, the Bravura Montgomery 973 handleset arrives as a Grade 2 set with the 672 interior plate and the 939-Charlotte interior lever, while the Bravura Savannah 913, Jacksonville 915 and Austin 971 come with the 906-Macon interior knob.
18) Which handlesets can I key alike with a Delaney Tralee?
The Tralee accepts a 5-pin KW1 cylinder and can also be ordered in SC1 5-pin, with keyed alike or keyed different selected at the time of order, and it can be rekeyed to match existing hardware. Keying alike depends on sharing the same keyway, so a set matched to a Tralee has to be ordered on the same keyway rather than chosen on series or grade. The Callan Visconti and Callan Briona single cylinder handlesets are the same Grade 3 single cylinder configuration if a matched pair of entries is the goal.
19) What exterior finishes does the Delaney Tralee handleset come in?
Two exterior finishes: US15 Satin Nickel and US12P Tuscany Bronze. If you are matching other openings on the building, note that the interior trim is chosen separately and has a wider finish range, including US19 black, US3 polished brass and US26 polished chrome, so the inside face does not have to match the outside.
20) Can one person install the Delaney Tralee handleset, or do I need a locksmith?
A screwdriver does it. The Tralee mounts to standard bored door prep, 2-1/8 inch cross bore and 1 inch edge bore on 5-1/2 inch centers, and the latch adjusts between the two common backsets in hand, so there is no drilling or measuring guesswork on a replacement. A locksmith only enters the picture if the door is not already bored, or if you want the cylinder rekeyed to a key system you already hold.
