Deltana 2BB 2" Barrel Bolt, Solid Brass

The 2BB is a 2 inch solid brass barrel bolt built for residential use, and it mounts on the inside face of the door as a secondary bolt. It's meant to add security while the primary lock is not in use, not to serve as the main lock on the opening. On a commercial opening or a fire rated door, use a proper lockset or surface bolt rated for that duty instead.

Screws are in the box. Each 2BB ships as one barrel bolt plus matching solid brass screws, sold by the each. What is not included is a strike or keeper, so on a jamb or a second door leaf you'll either drill the receiving hole directly into the wood or add a strike separately.

Nine finishes, so it can be matched to hinges and knobs already on the door: polished brass, PVD polished brass, antique brass, oil rubbed bronze, brushed nickel, antique nickel, polished chrome, brushed chrome, and paint black. For a property manager standardizing across units, PVD polished brass is the plated version of polished brass and is the one to pick where the bolt sees hands and cleaning.

The 2BB is the 2 inch size in Deltana's barrel bolt range, which is the small end. It suits interior applications, closet and cabinet doors, French door leaves, gates, and bathroom or bedroom privacy where you want a simple throw bolt. For an entry door, a door that gets pulled on, or anywhere the gap between door and jamb is wide, step up to a longer barrel bolt or a surface bolt so the bolt has more engagement in the strike.

No mortise. A barrel bolt is a surface mounted part, so it screws to the face of the door on the inside and throws into a hole or keeper on the jamb. That makes it the fix when you want added security on a door you don't want to bore, and it means you can add it to an already hung door without pulling it off the hinges.

No handing to specify. The 2BB mounts to the door face and throws in whatever direction you install it, so it works on a left or right hand door, horizontally at the top or bottom of a leaf, or vertically into the head or floor. Pick the position by where you want the bolt to engage, not by the swing of the door.

Brass is the whole part here, not a plating over steel, so the base metal won't rust the way a plated steel bolt does. That said the 2BB is specified as residential, and the finish is what weathers, not the brass. On an exposed gate, unlacquered or PVD finishes hold up better than lacquered polished brass, which will patina once the lacquer breaks down.
