Deltana BTC30 Ball Tension Catch 3" x 3/4"

The BTC30 is built for cabinet doors, closets, and other lightweight doors. It works by ball tension, so the door pulls open against spring pressure rather than a latch bolt. For an entry door, a fire door, or anything that needs to lock or resist force, this is the wrong part; you want a latchset or a bolt instead. On a run of closet and cabinet doors in an apartment or hotel, it does the job it was made for.

The BTC30 body measures 3 x 3/4 inches. That is the footprint you need on the door edge or frame face, so on a narrow cabinet stile measure before you commit. Deltana also makes shorter and longer ball tension catches if 3 inches does not land on your stile.

Adjustable. The ball tension is set on the catch itself, so you can back it off on a light cabinet door that a stiff catch would hold shut too hard, or tighten it on a door that drifts open. That adjustment is what makes one part usable across a mix of door weights in the same building.

Solid brass, all the way through, not a plated zinc casting. That matters in a bathroom, a kitchen, or a coastal property where a plated pot metal catch pits and the spring gives out. The finish sits on brass, so a scratch does not expose a different base metal.

Nine finishes: PVD Polished Brass, Polished Brass, Antique Brass, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Brushed Nickel, Antique Nickel, Polished Chrome, Brushed Chrome, and Paint Black. The PVD polished brass is the one to specify if you want the brass look without the ongoing polishing, since PVD is a hard coating rather than a lacquer. If you are matching existing Deltana trim on a project, pick the same finish code and the catch will read the same as the hinges and pulls.

No extra hardware to order. Each BTC30 ships in its own poly bag with the mounting hardware included, and it is sold one catch per unit, so a count of twelve doors is a count of twelve pieces.

A ball tension catch like the BTC30 holds by spring pressure on a ball, and you can dial that pressure up or down. A magnetic catch has a fixed pull and no moving parts. Go with the ball tension catch when door weights vary across the job and you want one part you can tune per opening, or when you want a positive click that tells the user the door is shut. Go magnetic when you want zero adjustment and no wear part. Neither one secures a door; both just hold it closed.
