Deltana CL500EVC Commercial Entry Standard Grade 2, Clarendon Lever with Cylinder

Door range on the CL500EVC entry leverset is 1-3/8 inch through 2 inch, so it covers older 1-3/8 inch interior doors, standard 1-3/4 inch commercial doors, and thicker 2 inch slabs without a separate kit. That range is wider than a lot of Grade 2 cylindrical locks, which stop at 1-3/4 inch.

No handing to specify. The Clarendon entry lever is universal, so one part covers left and right hand doors and you can flip it in the field. For a property manager buying several for a building, that means one line item instead of splitting the order by swing.

The cylinder is Schlage C keyway, which is the most common commercial keyway in North America, so it can be pinned into an existing Schlage C system by a locksmith. It is a single cylinder keyed function: key outside, and the inside lever is always free for egress.

The strike supplied is the ANSI standard 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inch, and the latch has a 1/2 inch throw. If your frame already has ANSI strike prep (the tall square-corner cutout used on hollow metal commercial frames) the lock drops straight in and you can leave the existing strike. If the frame carries a small residential T-strike or a 2-3/4 inch faceplate, the frame has to be prepped or you keep the supplied strike and cut for it.

Tubular cylindrical, not mortise. It installs into a standard cylindrical bore through the door face with a latch bore in the edge, so it replaces an existing cylindrical knob or lever set one for one as long as the backset matches (it comes at 2-3/4 inch, with 2-3/8 inch ordered separately). It will not fit a door pocketed for a mortise lock body, and going the other way, a mortise prep cannot be filled with this without a wrap or a new door.

The Hager 2525 is the nearest straight equivalent: a Grade 2 commercial cylindrical entry lock with a lever handle, with a door thickness range of 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch that matches the CL500EVC range of 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch. Both are keyed lever entry sets for commercial openings. The Deltana carries a Schlage C keyway and an ANSI 4-7/8 inch x 1-1/4 inch strike, so if you are keying into an existing Schlage C system the Deltana side is already settled.

The CL500EVC is an entrance function, meaning the outside lever can be left unlocked for business hours. For an opening that must stay locked at all times with key-only outside access, a storeroom function is the correct part: the Hager 2580 is a Grade 2 storeroom cylindrical lock with a Withnell lever, and the Cal-Royal AG05 is a Grade 2 storeroom lever lockset with a deadlocking latchbolt. Both hold the same Grade 2 level as the CL500EVC.

The CL500EVC is a Grade 2 lever. Where the spec calls for Grade 1, the Dexter C1000 Series Entry/Office is a Grade 1 keyed cylindrical lever lock with a 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door thickness range, and the Falcon B511CP6D covers entry/office at Grade 2 with medium duty if you are staying in that class. For a passage opening on the same job, the Falcon K101 is Grade 1, heavy duty, fire rated, and takes 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors.

They are close but not identical. The Cal-Royal AG00 is an entrance lever with a 6-pin Schlage C keyway keyed different and a 2-3/8 inch backset, for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. The Deltana CL500EVC ships with a 2-3/4 inch backset, with the 2-3/8 inch sold separately, and takes doors up to 2 inch. Both use a Schlage C keyway, so they key alike into the same system, but confirm which backset your existing bore uses before ordering either.

The CL500EVC is a keyed single cylinder lever on a Schlage C keyway. To move the same opening to a code, the Lockey 2835 is a mechanical pushbutton keyless lever lock with passage function and ADA compliance for doors 1-3/16 inch to 2 inch, and the Lockey 1150 is a heavy duty mechanical keypad lever set with an adjustable backset for doors 1-1/8 inch to 2 inch. The Delaney LP250 is a Grade 2 electronic keypad leverlock, matching the CL500EVC Grade 2 level. Note the Lockey units are mechanical and battery free while the Delaney is electronic.

Order a classroom function. The CL500EVC is an entrance function lever, which is not the same as classroom keying. The Cal-Royal AG03 is a classroom lever, Grade 2, with a 6-pin Schlage C keyway keyed different and a 2-3/4 inch backset - the same Schlage C keyway and same 2-3/4 inch backset the CL500EVC uses, so it drops into the same bore and keys into the same system. The Dexter C1000 Classroom is a Grade 1 clutching keyed classroom lever, and the C1000 Classroom Security version adds inside-key control of the outside lever.

Grade 2 is the medium duty commercial tier and it is the normal specification for apartment unit doors, offices, and tenant spaces. For a high traffic main entrance, a stairwell, or a school corridor, buyers usually step up to Grade 1: comparable Grade 1 cylindrical levers we carry include the Corbin Russwin CL3100 Series and the Falcon K Series. The Deltana is steel and zinc construction with a UL Listed latch.

Entry function means the outside lever can be left unlocked for business hours and locked when you want key-only access, with the inside lever always free. Storeroom function keeps the outside lever locked at all times and only the key retracts the latch, which is what you want on mechanical rooms and supply closets; the Cal-Royal AG05 and Hager 2580 are Grade 2 storeroom levers. Classroom function locks and unlocks the outside lever by key only, with no inside button, and the Cal-Royal AG03 covers that. Pick entry when someone on the inside needs to control access day to day.

Direct alternatives in Grade 2 entry: the Hager 2525 commercial cylindrical entry lock fits 1-3/8 to 2 inch doors, the same range as the Deltana. The Cal-Royal AG00 entrance lever is a 6-pin Schlage C keyway lock keyed different with a 2-3/8 inch backset, so it is the one to pick if your prep is 2-3/8 inch. The Falcon B511CP6D is a Grade 2 entry/office lever. Stepping down, the Cal-Royal AUS00 and Callan Artino are Grade 3 entrance levers, which is residential-grade duty rather than commercial.

Going from a cylindrical knob set to the Clarendon lever is a straight swap on the same bore, provided the backset matches and the frame carries ANSI 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inch strike prep or you cut for the supplied strike. Two things to watch: a lever needs handing on most brands, and this one does not, so the same part works on doors swinging either way; and check that the rose diameter covers any wear ring left by the old knob trim.

For a hall, closet, or corridor door that only needs a latch, drop the cylinder entirely. The Hager 2510 is a Grade 2 passage cylindrical lever with the Withnell design and a 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch door thickness range, matching the CL500EVC range of 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch. The Falcon B101 is a Grade 2 medium duty passage lever with a non-handed design, and the Arrow GL01 is a Grade 2 non-keyed passage lever with the Sierra lever for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors.

The CL500EVC is a commercial Grade 2 entrance lever. Where a Grade 3 lever suits the opening, the Cal-Royal AUS00 is a Grade 3 entrance/office lever lock with a solid brass forged body for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, the Callan Artino is a Grade 3 entrance leverset, and the Master Lock RL Series is a Grade 3 return style keyed entry lockset. A privacy function is the right part - it locks from inside with a thumbturn and needs no key. The Hager 2540 is a Grade 2 privacy cylindrical lock with the Withnell lever for doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, and the Arrow MK02-TA is a non-keyed privacy lock with a Tudor knob that is fire rated. The Kwikset 300BRNL Breton is a Grade 3 privacy lever set for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. The CL500EVC is keyed and single cylinder, which is more lock than a restroom door needs.

Those stay inside the CL3100 and CL33900 families; the Deltana runs a Schlage C keyway, so mixing it in means a separate keying decision.

The CL500EVC is Grade 2 steel and zinc. For heavier traffic, the Falcon T101 is a Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical passage lever with pressure release technology, and the BEST 9K Series 1DT is a Grade 1 heavy duty non-keyed cylindrical lever trim. On the medium duty side, the BEST 7KC Series 1DT is Grade 2. Note that all three are non-keyed, so they cover the traffic requirement but not the keyed entry function the CL500EVC provides.

An asylum or institution function locks from both sides by key with no free egress from the inside, which the entrance function of the CL500EVC does not do. The Arrow MK33-BD-CS is a Grade 2 asylum cylindrical lock with a ball knob and a conventional cylinder on a Schlage C keyway - the same Schlage C keyway the CL500EVC uses, so both key into one system - and the Dexter C1000 Asylum is the Grade 1 F87 version for doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch.

Three finishes: oil rubbed bronze, brushed chrome, and polished brass. If you are matching existing openings in a building, oil rubbed bronze and polished brass read as decorative trim while brushed chrome is the closest of the three to typical commercial satin hardware.

Removable through-bolts are included as an option on the Clarendon entry lever. Through-bolting ties the two roses together through the door rather than relying on screws into a single side, which is what holds up on an abused entry door. Being removable means you can pull them for a standard rose-screw install where the door does not need it.

The CL500EVC is a lever handle, which is the ADA-friendlier choice on commercial openings. If the job calls for a knob instead, the Arrow HK11-BB is a turn-pushbutton entrance cylindrical lock with a ball knob and a conventional cylinder, Grade 2, for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. The difference to weigh is the operation: the Arrow uses a turn-pushbutton on the inside knob, while the CL500EVC is a single cylinder keyed entry lever.
