1) What is the Deltana FPGHDB strike used for?
The FPGHDB is a heavier strike for Deltana's Offset Surface Bolts. The bolt itself mounts on the door face and throws into this strike, so the strike is the receiving piece, not the bolt. It is sold each, so order one per bolt you want to upgrade.
2) How far does the Deltana offset heavy duty strike stand off the surface?
Projection is 1-3/16 inches. That offset is what lets the bolt cross the gap from the door face to an adjacent surface, so measure the actual gap on your opening against that 1-3/16 inch figure before you commit. If your gap is materially different, a flat or flush strike is the wrong direction and so is this one.
3) Do I need the FPGHDB strike, or will the strike that came with my Deltana surface bolt do?
It is an optional upgrade, not a required part. The bolt ships ready to use; the FPGHDB is there when you want a heavier receiver, typically on a door that gets hard use or where the standard strike has been chewed up. If the existing strike is holding, you don't need this.
4) Is the Deltana FPGHDB strike suitable for a commercial opening?
Deltana rates the FPGHDB for residential use. For apartments, single family entries, French doors and closet pairs it is the right class of part. On a commercial opening under code, or anywhere the door is part of a rated assembly, this is not the part to specify.
5) Does the FPGHDB strike come with the surface bolt, or do I order them separately?
Separately. The FPGHDB is a strike only, sold each, and the Offset Surface Bolt is its own order. On a pair of doors with two bolts (head and threshold) you need two strikes, matched in finish to the bolts.
